Unlimited Data Needed

I live in a rural area. No DSL, cable, and dial up won't even work because of outdated lines. We moved here two years ago. After searching and talking with every major and miner internet provider, we found Alltel had service in our are. So we use a 3g broadband for our internet with unlimited data. Unfortunately the service isn't what was advertised. Were lucky to get 500 KBPS downloads, and it drops connection constantly. With my son and wife both needing internet for work and school, it has become very frustrating.

Welcome 4g to our area. It took a month from the time the map showed it, to when its was actually availible. Great, we thought a faster, hopefully more reliable internet. Untill we start looking at the home broadband plans. $80 for a 10g plan?! I thought the $50 we were paying for unlimited was bad. Not only that, but when looking into how much data we use in one month, we realized the 10g wasn't enough. My wife takes continued education courses online to keep her Paramedic card up to date. (there are no local classes availible here). Our son is in a computer app class which requires him to download projects at home.

So please verizon offer a better plan for those of us with no other reliable form of home internet service.

Please sign this thread if you agree Verizon should offer more affordable home broadband use.

Bad news is that this will most likely not happen in the near future.

Have you looked into Sattelite ISP's?

we live her efor a reason, dont need no internet

but yeah, as was said before your best bet is satellite internet

mobile broadband was not created for use as a primary internet option

also look into wifi type providers, they are becoming popular in some areas

The cost of satellite is way to high. It would actually be cheaper to pay Verizon overage fees.

Funny how there is no cable or DSL when it's about 5 miles down the road. They wont bring it down to us because the cost would be in the thousands. I think the only reason we have 4g is because we live in between two major city's. The interstate that connects the two city's is a mile behind our house.

People need to take this into consideration when they decide where to live. Why should Verizon give you a lower price because you choose to live where you do? If they lowered the price, I could ditch my U-Verse internet, but that's not going to happen.

Yea, my post was really directed to the OP. Anyway, life is all about choices. As we make those choices, we shouldn't try to hold everyone else responsible.

Also, just this week the FCC announced plans to switch the USF from telephone service to rural broadband.  If this is approved, we should see more people getting broadband.  The plan claims to cover 50% of those currently without it in the next 5 years and have universal access by the end of the decade.

Of course, these long-term plans don't always work out (and in the UK for example, they had to keep increasing the planned minimum-acceptable speed for universal broadband, when they started 1-2Mbps was acceptable, by 2020, probably not!)
