I share a plan (700 voice minutes) with 3 other family members. Are you saying that if I upgrade my phone, the other 3 will not lose their unlimited data and texting?

Correct; each line has its own contract, so upgrading your phone will not affect the other lines on the account. Keep in mind, though, that if you currently have unlimited data and you upgrade via a subsidized phone (i.e., sign a new two-year contract), you will lose your unlimited data and have to switch to a tiered (i.e., 2 GB for $30) data plan.
