I bought an Apple Watch and had to add a "new line" to my cellular plan for $10/month. This is very misleading, not really a new line but an add-on to one of your existing lines. I assumed I could make calls on my watch without my iPhone being involved. NOT TRUE! My cell phone has to be connected to cell service (as does the watch obviously), which means if one puts their cell phone in airplane mode or it dies their watch can't make or receive calls and says it isn't connected to the internet. I'm not sure what I'm paying $10/month for, this is very similar to my previous watch without cellular capabilities. But if one gives their phone its own phone number and pays $20/month, then one can use it as a phone. I took my watch and phone to a Verizon store and they didn't even understand the plans. They thought the watch should make calls with the phone off too!
