Thanks

Thank you all for your replies. There is a known issue with receiving a message in the Media Center. This is due to Daily Scoop. There was a post on how to resolve this issue previously, but I will post it here as well.
Daily Scoop can suspend the application remotely by following the instructions listed below:
-Remove any data blocks
-Go into the Daily Scoop application and press next. It will download content.
-E-mail us at vzdailyscoopsupport@mobileposse.com to let us know it is on and you have downloaded content, and we will suspend it.
-Once it is suspended, then you can turn the data feature off (the next day), and you will not receive alerts anymore.
Thank you,

I get this message too on my Env2. I have been quick enough to open it.When I did before If I recall it was my contacts backing up to my online account.

Do you currently have back up assistant running on your device? Or did you get your device from someone who had back up assistant running? You could be getting the message either because your back up assistant is scanning for new updates to your phone or either if you got your device from someone who did have back up assistant running, it could be trying to scan for their updates.

I have a similar problem. Every morning my phone displays "New media center message". I can sometimes see the message and it is for Backup Assistant. The message usually tells me that no changes were found in my contacts list. I'm not sure why the message is displayed sometimes and not others. Maybe the messages that disappear are for something else but I have no other applications that I know of.
I would like to stop getting media center messages unless there's important information. Does anyone know how to change the settings? I have found nothing useful on the Backup Assistant web page, and the options given for Backup Assistant through my phone are minimal.
Phone: LG Cosmos Touch
Thanks

I get the same message on my LG Cosmos Touch every day. I've tried everything -- removing the battery, restoring the phone to factory settings, and nothing has worked. If anyone out there has a solution, please post it for those of us who are sick of getting this message. The only time I did not receive the message was when I left my phone plugged into the charger. If I knew that Backup Assistant was going to cause such a headache, I would have just taken the time to manually enter each phone number.

This is how to get rid of the "New Media Center Message" notification. You will need a micro SD card for your phone. You can do this without a micro SD card, but be aware that it will erase all of your data and require you to reenter all of your contacts, pictures, music, etc.
First, make sure to save all of your contacts to your SD card. You might have to "format" your data card if this is the first time using it. To format your data card:
Go to Settings
Scroll down to Memory
Go to Card Memory
Go to Format at the bottom of the screen.
Formatting your data card will erase everything that's on it beforehand, so make sure you are not erasing anything important. Next, you are going to save your contacts to your data card:
Go to Contacts
Go to Contact List
Go to the upper right hand corner bubble
In the drop-down menu, go to Copy to Card
At the bottom of the screen, go to Mark All
Go to Done
You have now saved your contacts to your data card. Save the rest of your important pictures, music, ringtones, etc. to your data card.
Next, remove the data card. Now, you are going to restore your phone to factory settings:
Go to Settings
Go to Phone Settings
Go to Security
Put in your phone lock code
Go to Restore Phone
THIS WILL ERASE ALL CONTACTS AND USER DATA. IF YOU DID NOT SAVE EVERYTHING TO A DATA CARD, YOU WILL HAVE TO REENTER IT IN YOUR PHONE.
Once your phone has been reset to factory settings, you will have to reactivate your phone. Dial *228 and follow the prompts.
After your phone is reset, reinsert your memory card. Now, you are going to restore your data:
Go to Settings
Go to Memory
Go to Card Memory
From there you can restore your contacts, pictures, music, ringtones, etc.
Now, I tried this and it did not copy any of the pictures associated with my contacts. You will have to reassign the photos to your contacts. But it's certainly better than having to reenter every single phone number. If you don't have any photos assigned to your contacts, then there's no hassle.
Okay, now the most important thing to do next and from now on is to NOT USE BACKUP ASSISTANT. Don't activate it or go anywhere near it. That's the reason the message keeps popping up. If you decide to get a new phone in the future, THEN activate Backup Assistant and run it prior to activating your new phone. Hopefully, your new phone won't have this New Media Center Message problem. I also recommend that you save everything to your data card as a second option.
This is the only solution I have discovered. Unfortunately, I didn't think about saving everything to my data card before restoring my phone. So, I am currently reentering all of my contacts manually. You have to decide if this is worth the effort. I hope this helps some of you out there!

This is incredibly frustrating. I just got the LG Cosmos Touch 2 weeks ago, and I'm having the same problem. It drains my battery in the middle of the night with reminders about this mystery media message. Each time I try to retrieve it, it takes me to my Games section. I'm one day past the 14 day return policy.
I'm going to try what the other poster had mentioned, although I've NEVER used Backup Assistant, so it can't rightly be blamed on that. I love this phone, other than the media message problem.

I have been dealing with this ever since I upgraded my phone with my 2 year plan and got the LG Cosmos Touch. I called Verizon on FIVE different occasions and went into the store twice and no one could help me. They had never heard of this issue and had no idea how to fix it. I found this message board and tried to erase my phone (as one of the posters instructed above) and to manually re-enter all of my contacts without using backup assistant. It still did not work. So frustrating!!
I was issued a new phone (the same LG Cosmos Touch) and that phone did the same thing. Sometimes it would say "New Media Center Message" and would bring me to the GAMES screen and where it said "get new application" and with the 2nd phone I would open it to the "Browse and Download" screen where it said "Backup Assistant" or "The Daily Scoop". This happened at least 5 times a day.
Finally I decided to return both of the LG Cosmos Touch phones and in the meantime went back to my Envy 2 and now I am getting a media center message on the Envy 2. I have no idea what to do...

I have the exact same problem as you and I spent HOURS (three hours, easily) talking with about SEVEN DIFFERENT VZW reps, all of whom were (or pretended to be) clueless about the phone's self-generated updates. I didn't believe that then and I really disbelieve it now. They went as far as to give me a brand new phone out of it on their "assumption" that my old phone (only a month old!) was defective, hence their inability to give me a solution to these incessant messages asking me to download crap I do not want and would never use.
So what about the new phone, which they hoped wouldn't have the same problem? It sure does.
It's a decent enough phone but I absolutely HATE this spam feature--it IS spam because you CANNOT STOP these messages coming day and night, at least not when you follow tech help's directions. NOTHING of what they told me to try worked. I am now convinced it wasn't meant to. The update messages are a built-in app spammer, plain and simple. The day and night, battery-draining, wake-you-up messages are a feature, not a bug. I believe they knew that when they spoke to me. All of them. They were hoping to wear me down by wasting my time, and were even willing to send me a uselessly new phone.
So I'm glad I found this thread and I've just followed MHolmes instructions above. I hope my not reactivating Backup Assistant kills it. His theory makes sense that these messages (especially for the idiotic Daily Scoop, which is always #1 on my update list) are intended to piggyback off of the auto-backup feature...Auto Contact update is something anyone should want, so they'll roll these spam updates in with it. Clever, really clever. I hope MHolmes fix works!
PS It's been almost 30 minutes since I did the wipe and reset and killed auot backup...I had been getting update msgs every 5 minutes this morning (because it's Saturday? Big shopping day? Maybe)...so far, no new messages. Fingers crossed...

Have to add this, though: one step of MHolmes guide won't work but it's not his fault. My phone has no Save To Card feature for the contacts...I had to write them all down by hand and will have to re-enter them manually. But if it works, it'll be more than worth it.
I wonder if VZN's programmers removed that feautre from this phone for the express reason of negating the fix MHolmes describes? Yeah, that's cynical thinking I know, but after talking with a half-dozen reps, I've earned the right to be cynical.

"so fix your backup assistant sync settings..killing your battery for a 20 seconds process is a stretch"
Backup Assistant isn't the problem. It's the constant alerts that app updates are available; Daily Scoop is only one of them. The alerts go off several times day and night and it is (so far) impossible to stop them. It should be possible to kill them completely, but it isn't, despite everything that's been posted here.
And yes, I can vouch that they do run down the battery.

I have the exact same problem with the exact same phone. I wake up every morning to a message, and sometimes have one of Verizon's spam messages go off in the middle of the night. It is so frustrating. I think it is ridiculous that Verizon feels they can do this to their customers and not give them any option on how to stop it. Makes me want to switch plans...
