Hey guys!
Just checked for the8.1 update for my Icon.... Received a message saying that a pre-update was being installed to help smooth over the 8.1 update for my Icon. It went on to say that 8.1 is filled with great new features and that I'll love it. My phone is processing through the update now! I hope you guys get your update soon too!
Finally my Icon does not need to be abandoned! Enjoy 8.1 my Icon friends

The phone in the story was used for development. As written, the author's other phone with a standard setup updated without a problem.
If you have a modified OS, or have downloaded software that modifies (rather than uses) your OS, you are likely to have issues on the upgrade. A patch, or upgrade depends on an installed OS to build on. Pieces missing or modified and you're up the creek.

Seems like I'd read somewhere that those who had installed the Dev Preview would have to do a Factory Reset on their phone before installing the update. I never installed the preview and mine updated without a hitch.
I would also recommend making sure the battery has enough charge or plugging it in.
I haven't had a chance to test everything out, but from the little bit that I have, I'm loving it!

I Remember reading the same thing several months ago from Microsoft. You have to reset to wp8 then all the updates then Wp8.1 or you couldn't get a clean install. People installing WP 10 might keep this in mind when it comes time to install the final version Of that OS.

My Lumia Icon still (erroneously) shows that I'm running the Cyan update. No Denim yet for me.

Did you participate in the Preview for Developers Program? If so did you disable it? If so re-enable it and you should then see the update.

I did participate and I have deleted the app, plus I did a complete wipe. Now my Icon is stuck at the startup screen where it just says "Nokia" in white letters. I'm going to try the software recovery tool when I get a chance. This makes me think I have automatically downloaded the Denim update (I have auto-updates enabled) at some point recently. My Icon is not my daily driver so I'm not up on when this happened.

HHad a perfect update. So far I would say it is about 98% a little problem with the learning session in Cortana. Also folders was added to the start screen. Just push one app onto another then give the folder a name.

Received the Windows 8.1 Denim update for my Lumia Icon on Thursday, 2/12. It was a nice early valentines gift. I need to learn to use all of the features but this update is awesome. I don't know what took Microsoft - Nokia - Verizon to get all the bugs worked out but so far it is working just fine. I love Cortana! The "swipe" feature on the keyboard when typing is great, missed that when I switched from Android. The Living Images capability it pretty cool.

One quick note:
The upload comes in two parts, a preparation upload, and then the OS upload.
The first step takes 2 min. and you are back to using your phone.
The second update takes 5-10 min. to download and about 1/2 hour to install. You cannot attempt to use your phone during the OS update. Plan on being around a stable wireless connection with time to let your phone sit and do its work. After the OS was installed, my phone worked without a problem.
(The Denim update is Awesome!). I won't bore this thread with hyperventilating glee, but it is cool.

I used the Lumia Software Recovery Tool to update my Icon. Multiple restarts required throughout the process and there were some issues getting my laptop to recognize the Lumia, but I got it. Now to give it a whirl.
