also, does anyone know which phones will be affected?

The article states:
"Opera co-founder Jon von Tetzchner confirmed that Verizon Wireless feature phones will start coming preloaded with his company's browser soon, following up on an announcement that was made in July to the Oslo stock market."
I think the keyword is "preloaded". Meaning it will already be on phones which to me would indicate on new phones currently being sold. This doesn't mean that it won't come to existing feature phones though.
If this does come to exisitng/discontinued phones such as the LG enV Touch or Samsung Rogue/Reality which were some of their best selling multimedia (now called feature) phones then a software update would be necessary. All these phones currently have Polaris as the web browser and have been discontinued, although software updates are still coming through for them.
As for when it happens I don't know if anyone can give an answer until more information becomes available.

It would be great to find some more information about it and any tips/tricks that might apply to this version.
Let's hope it makes it to more phones and keeps on being supported and updated.

I agree! My wife has it for her enV Touch and loves it. She says it's a lot faster. I would like to see it come out for the Samsung Rogue now

Thank for the input everyone. I would like to add the Opera Mini Browser is an experience for Web like never before. Browse complete web pages, just like on your computer. Verizon Opera Mini loads web pages faster and efficiently using advanced compression techniques. This browser experience is currently only available for the following devices and at this time we do not have information for the release of this browser on other devices:
--Lg EnV Touch
--Lg EnV 2
--Lg EnV 3
For future reference, you may sign up for updates regarding new software, products, plans, etc that we offer at the following site:

I use Opera Mini Beta 2 on my BB Bold; if I could use it on the Voyager that would be awesome!

Good to hear something close to official about it. Was there any type of official announcement somewhere by any chance? Also, is there any support/help information or perhaps even tips/tricks information for the Verizon Opera Mini?

Well the thought of actually having a decent browser that is fast was nice. However, it would be great if Verizon would leave the functionality as the developer intended.
1) I cannot view full webpages, they automatically switch to the mobile version even if full page is set in the settings menu.
2) Any site that you can watch videos (youtube, etc) do not work. A error comes up stating the protocol is not supported with a link showing the full path of the intended .3gp video file.
3) Only sites that do not contain any multimedia load as intended.
So why must functionality always be torn out of a device or program when Verizon gets a hold of it? Yes, I would prefer to use this browser. Limiting functions of the Opera Mini 5.0 browser only serves to show how much you don't want freedom of choice on your devices.
At least is is a step forward, even if the full potential has been hidden from us who would like to see it.

Did the Rogue ever receive Opera Mini?
