Anyone else experiencing lockups?

My phone has locked up a couple times now, requiring power cycle.  I have not seen this in any Windows Phone I've used before (Arrive or Focus).  I'm going to give it until Monday, and see if i keeps up, and if so, I think I'm going to call and get it replaced.  I'm hoping I got a bad handset, and not that this is typical of the Trophy.

So I went before work today (I work 12 hour days and have only been home from work for a couple hours) and explained what was going on and how I've done a hard reset and everything. Basically, what the Verizon tech did, was do another hard reset and told me that, if the lockups persist, to come back in and they'd replace it. Well, the phone was working fine all day until I got home and plugged it into my laptop to charge it and that's when everything started effing up again. I don't know if there are virus' for WP7 but it would seem that something when I plug into my laptop happens that causes everything on my phone to botch up and then need to hard reset. I have it plugged into my desktop at the moment and my apps and everything are loading up and not crashing like when I had it plugged into my laptop (I even plugged the phone into my 360 just to see what would happen). I think it has something to do with my laptop which makes no sense since both lap and desktop are running Windows 7.

There is no virus that will affect the phone.  Yet.  Let me explain.

When I submit an app to Marketplace, it is tested, not only for user experience, and did I meet the app certification requirements (follow Microsoft's rules), but also tested for malicious code.  After it is tested, and passes (usually 3-5 days later), I can publish it.

Let's say that somehow I got malicious code past the certification.  First, once discovered, all Microsoft has to do is revoke the app's security certificate.  Then the app will automatically uninstall from every phone that it is on.  The phones check in on security certificates, and uninstall apps that don't have one.

Then, another security feature is isolated storage.  Not only can an app not access the operating system, but it can't access data stored by another app.  My app has its own storage area on the phone, and nothing else can access that info.  My app can't access anything else's info.  Even using developer tools, and an unlocked phone, I can't get into other apps' data without using uncertified tools.  I can do it, manually (not with an app), but it takes tools that are not sanctioned by Microsoft, and cannot be installed on a phone that is not developer unlocked.  Microsoft did this for security, and while it has meant some challenges in writing apps, it is a good thing.

I don't know what the relationship is between your phone and your desktop, but I can tell you that unless your phone is unlocked with a developer account or you hacked it to unlock it, your computer cannot install software on it.  The phones are locked to prevent sideloading (installing of apps outside the Marketplace), similar to the way an iPhone is.  Even with legitimate developer tools (which are free), you can't sideload an app unless you have a developer account with Microsoft (which is not free).  The only thing Zune can really do with a phone that isn't unlocked is sync media.  So even if there were a virus for the phone, it couldn't be installed this way.

If it were me, I'd take the phone back and get it swapped out.

I haven't had this problem, so hopefully you can just get it replaced.

Yeah, sounds like your device may be a lemon of sorts potentially. I'm having no issues with my device related to locking up or unresponsiveness.

Thanks, guys.  That's a relief.  I'll call on Tuesday.  And if they tell me they're going to send me a refurb to replace my brand new phone (yes, I've been told this happens), I'll call the person who called me back after my messages to execs.  She told me if I have any problems call her personally and she'll take care of me.  :smileywink:

We're sorry you're having this issue with your new Trophy. Hopmedic, have you had opportunity to reach out to us for troubleshooting? If not, please feel free to send me a PM with your wireless number, an alternate contact number and a good time to reach you so that I can gather the information necessary to resolve this matter for you. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks, but there is already another phone on the way to me.  It should be here tomorrow.  As far as troubleshooting, I had already done all that, as I know what I'm doing - I've worn many hats in IT - PC Tech, Systems Admin, Deskside Support, Networking, Windows Development, Windows Mobile Development, Telephone Tech Support, and now Windows Phone 7 Development.  On top of that, the phone call I made was the tech's first Windows Phone 7 call.  No surprise there with the platform less than a week old in Verizon's camp.  Resetting the phone didn't solve the problem.  Also, polling people on this and other forums asking if they had similar problems turned up no trends (I'm the only one, apparently), so this couldn't be called a known issue.  Given all this, she didn't have me do any troubleshooting, but just verified my address info, and is sending me a phone.  Nice and simple.

Ditto here. I'm going to take mine in tomorrow on my way to work and hope they'll switch it out for me.

Remember Verizon has a 15 day return policy, so I you can insist on replacement.  I just don't know whether you have to call and do it by phone if you bought it online or by phone.

I bought it online so I'll probably have to go through those channels I assume..?

Only had 2 lock-ups myself... First was when I was loading an app and was inpatient and tried backing out of the apps quickly trying to get back to the home screen...  Once download and installation completed, home screen appeared and things were good.

Second lock-up was from a GAME!!!  Yes, a game... but I think once again I was inpatient and hit back or by accident the camera button.

Camera button is something I had a problem with until I got a hard case in the mail which seperates all the buttons on the phone with the hard shell.

Back to 2nd lockup, which I had to physically hold down power button.  If you trully want to shutdown your phone, unplug the power cable.  It seems that the phone will reset with power cable plugged in vs. power down without power cable plugged in.

Overall experience has been EXCITING and I am glad that the wait was worth it.  I was upset that we didn't receive 32gb on the Trophy like the Microsoft employee offering, but 16gb as extended RAM on this phone has been really impressive.  I always carry a huge Music collection with me at all times, at least 10gb... So that extra 16gb would have been great.
