As of November 28th, 2013 I am having an audio issue with my Nokia Lumia 928. This is a brand new phone (less than 5 days old, Verizon had to send me a new one due to an issue with the headphone jack) and I did not use a backup to restore the phone.
The issue: no audio from the external speakers when playing music or video, and no audio from the ear piece on phone calls - I have had to switch to speaker phone each time to hear any phone calls. Oddly, on speaker phone and when the phone rings (incoming phone call or text message) do the external speakers work.

Hi jaxom10,
I'm sorry to hear you're having audio issues with your new phone. Have you tried adjusting the volume on the external speakers? Do you have a case on your device? If so, remove the case and make sure the earpiece volume is not turned down (while in a call, manually turn the volume up by pressing the up volume key). The turning the volume up can only be done while on a call. Let me know if this helps.

having the same issue with my phone. Got this past week and today I plugged in some headphones to use and after I took those out I could only hear calls via the Speaker phone option. No music over the speaker and no sound from videos either. My sound only works with headphones.

That's not good! Let's check to see if your device is stuck in "headset mode". With the headphones removed from your device, go to Settings, then Audio. If the equalizer screen is active and you can change the presets, then the phone is stuck in "headset mode". If this is the case, please let me know so I can further assist. Thanks!

I have the same problem. My Lumia 928 is stuck on headphone mode for a week now. Even after Soft AND Hard Resets, EQ is active and I can change presets with headphones unplugged.

Anthony,
I have requested to follow you and you accepted, however I was unable to send you a direct message. Please advise.
I have the issue you described above with the "stuck in headphone mode" and the equalizer screen.

I am having this exact same problem, is there a known fix? This is my fourth phone in four months. Getting tired of having to replace them all the time. Plugging in headphones to a smartphone shouldn't be a big deal. I literally had this phone for about three hours before this happened again.

@slowtocatchon,
Let's get to the bottom of this and getting your audio working right!
Are you using a protective case or cover? If so, remove them and retest. Ensure there is no debris in the headset jack by blowing into the opening or using a vacuum device to clear the headset jack opening. Has there been any physical or liquid damage?

John,
No liquid or dropping damage. I was trying to play a video of my daughter singing Silent Night for the family and couldn't hear sound. Tried other apps with sound same problem. Everything else seems to be working just fine.

I am having a similar problem, I have sound only when someone calls I can hear them, but not if I switch to speaker phone. No sound on music, games or ringtones. One item I tried said there was a problem with my media player. Help! This is the second phone and the buttons on my last phone didn't work. Thanks!

Thanks for the details of the issue you're having kpez0718. When you go into Settings and then Audio on your phone (without a headset plugged in), is the equalizer screen active and can you change the presets? We'll get to the bottom of this! Let me know what you find.

Yes. When I go into Settings and then Audio on my phone (without a headset plugged in), the equalizer screen IS active and I CAN change the presets! How do I get my phone unstuck of headset mode?

Thanks so much for clarifying, Julius.
First soft reset the device by powering off/on and test it again.
Another weird thing that may fix it is to enter headphones and remove them or to even blow in the headset port to clear anything that may be obstructing it.

Replace it! The jack is messed up like the one I just had replaced after a week new. Now this new one I got today is freezing up all the time. I will be returning it and doing just what the Verizon tech said to do. Make the manager pull the entire stock and see how many stickers are placed over old stickers with new imei numbers. Seems someone at Verizon is reflashing new imei numbers and selling used bad or returned phones as new!

Just had my 928 replaced and now I need to get another one since the replacement is doing the same thing. Hopefully this next one will work as (from what I am reading) this is a known issue (no matter how much Verizon and Nokia will deny it). I guess I will have to deal with this until the 929 comes out and have to fight to get that one. Sigh.

Sounds like we need to investigate further Smitty7831! Since this is a replacement phone, I recommend a hands on evaluation. Please visit a Verizon Wireless store near you for further assistance.
