Blurry scenic photographs. Ideas?

Many of my scenic shots are blurry. In checking 'properties' of the picture, it appears that the shutter speed (1/5000 ?) is very fast at an aperture opening of f/2. The shallow depth of field sounds like the probabl cause but I have no idea how to get to a better setting, ie slower shutter speed at f/5.6 or similar. Any suggestions?

Even the slightest smudge in the lens will make the picture come out blurry. Try cleaning the lenses for the camera and the flash, and then try taking a picture and see how it comes out

Thanks for the suggestion. Will try it with lens cleaning solution as well.
