Re: Can you get Cortana for the Lumia 928? If so, how?

Point taken. Maybe a poor choice of words on my part.

My response of Verizon does not have to update falls for any device. Not just windows phones.

It is not meant to shatter hopes, it is on my part just a don't blame Verizon even if they are late or if a customer believes they are entitled to the updates. My response was a deflection to wait and see. That's all.

I agree with another poster that communication as to if they are updating etc. Should be done. But as another poster wrote if Verizon falls on missing that deadline or what if they say no update. It is going to cause more issues. Sometimes silence is golden.

As I personally stated, I don't buy a cell phone to get updates. If it functions on day of purchase I am very happy.

I once had the original Spectrum not the Spectrum 2 and that device did not get updates even to match the Spectrum 2. However I was not angry, nor did I post where is my updates etc.

I was on the phone with Verizon regarding a problem with my Nokia 928 and the rep had to get a Nokia rep on the phone to help resolve the issue.  The Nokia rep said they (Nokia) are still testing the release from Microsoft and nobody (neither Nokia or Verizon) will give any hint of a release date. So any speculation (August, September, October, etc.) is as good a guess as any other date. But they all seem to feel the 8.1/Cyan update with Cortana will be available at some time in the future for the 928.

I also conference called Nokia & Verizon Rep.  However my story ends a bit differently.  I finally got the Verizon Rep to admit that the firmware (mind you, not the OS software) was sent to Verizon on July 15th for testing.  The reason they have to test it is because the firmware alters hardware on the device and Verizon needs to ensure these changes don't do anything to cause problems on their network (unexpected things do happen).  Once this testing is complete, they provide the approval for Nokia (now Microsoft Mobile OY) to push out the firmware (and OS update) to your phone through Verizon's network.  The problem I have with this is that Apple iPhones are either not required to go through this testing, or Verizon works with Apple to "pretest" the firmware changes before Apple releases the update.  Either way, we should be receiving this same option as paying customers who pay the same for our service as the Apple users do!  Blatant DISCRIMINATION!

Without going too much into detail, I was recently informed by someone at the Verizon Exec Office that the update for the Icon should be released sometime within the next "2 to 5 business days."  Lets hope I wasn't handed another line of b u 1 1!

Nokia global support shows WP 8.1 testing on the 928.  For anyone supporting hundreds or thousands of Windows machines, the only smart choice is to properly test prior to deployment.  I do and can't fault VZW for wanting to determine what effect the new OS will have on their network as well as their customers phones.

I don't care what Apple does.

I do NOT want an update that causes issues with the phone functionality.  It is a fine phone and in the end it must remain a phone, not bricked or flakey.

You can see what phones are testing and what phones will never see the update.

You entire argument contradicts itself.  You are saying there are hundreds or thousands of Windows machines and therefore they must be tested to ensure they won't get bricked or cause a massive outage on the network.  I agree they must be tested, but it shouldn't take 6 freakin weeks!  Also, if you don't care what Apple does, what if their phone does something to the network because it wasn't tested first and the whole network goes blank and your Windows Phone won't work because Apple's "UNTESTED" phone broke the network.  Would you still not care then?  My fight is to ensure ALL phones are properly tested on the network in a VERY TIMELY manner (either pretested with the manufacturer or within a "not to exceed maximum testing time limt" by the network technicians.  Either way, no one manufacturer should be allowed the privilege of receiving an immediate update while the rest of us have to deal with this torturous, stressful, pain-and-suffering drama of waiting for Verizon to release our update.  It not only grants Apple users a benefit that we don't receive, but it grants Apple a leverage on sales that Android and Windows Phones don't have.  It is UNFAIR all the way around and MUST come to an end!

What pain and suffering? My lord it is only a cell phone. If the update gets to the device it gets to the device. It is not the end of the world.

I don't buy a phone for an update. I buy it to make and receive calls. Smartphones hey email and web when I need it but it is not the end of the world if I ever get any update.

As I said many times you will get an update when its available.

Constantly complaining about it does not get it sent out any faster.

I agree all updates if and when needed to be done; should be just like my apple phones, done by the maker of the devices.

But this is not a perfect world and things don't always work out perfect.

Pain in my rear and suffering through this misery of waiting for my update.  You may not buy a phone for an update, but other people (like myself) do!  I bought this phone because when I purchased it, I was told by a Verizon salesperson that it would receive the Cyan firmware update "SHORTLY" (NOT 5 MONTHS DOWN THE LINE)!  So I agreed to purchase it BASED ON THIS INFORMATION, otherwise I would have purchased something else.

As for your comment that "complaining about it does not get it sent out any faster," tell that to the Verizon Wireless Executive who called me the other day regarding my FCC complaint stating that it should be released within 2 to 5 business days.  If it isn't, I have her direct number and WILL be calling her back as well as recontacting the FCC.  You obviously work for Verizon or you wouldn't be backing their slow, lazy, careless work ethic!  No go back to playing with your iPhone!

The only problem is if you based you purchases off of a promise from a salesperson who's salary is primarily based off of sales.  I have a bridge to sell you   Salespeople will tell you what every you want to hear so they can make a sale.  Shortly to them could be 5 months or 6 weeks.  Heck VZW didn't release Update 1 for Windows Phone 8 for close to 4 months.

With that said...  I'm with you on this and I'll I ask from VZW (which I know will never happen being they think their customers are stupid) is a time table.  Nokia/Microsoft point the finger at VZW; VZW points the finger at Nokia/Microsoft for who to blame for the roll out.

I don't work for Verizon in any manner or form. As I told you before nice try.

And if you just buy a device for an update then I question your mind functions.

I buy my devices to make and receive calls and text messages. An occasional use of the web etc.

If the device I purchased does the things I just wrote, I am happy.

I don't buy a device for an update. That is just crazy.

And I noticed the other post about your FCC complaint and the Verizon reply. Let me explain something to you, Verizon can tell you anything since you are on their complainer list. Let's see just when that update is released. Or let's here the excuse you will be given when it is not available.

Complain all you like. And because an Apple iPhone gets their updates faster and from Apple is not discrimination. I don't expect updates to my iPhone since it worked when I purchased it. In fact I purchased two since I stopped using my android phone.

My wife's android gets updates but like me she purchased for the style and screen size and storage capacity.

Not some update.

You have to learn to have patience.

I am running WP 8.1 on my Nokia 928 from Verizon. I watched a video posted on youtube that showed how to install the "preview for developers". This install/update process took about 1.5-2 hours, but it works! I changed my home screen to a 3 column layout. I installed Cortana, and she works great! The "swipe" typing feature is wonderful and the new notification center is very convenient.

I suggest you simply watch a couple of the youtube instructional videos and then got for it. 8.1 is MUCH better than 8.0 and well worth the time to install!
