Casio Exilim pictures to computer

Hello I purchased the Casio Exilim phone specifically because I was told that I could transfer the pictures I take with the phone, to my PC. But I can't find any instructions for this in the User Guide. Just by trial and error, I found Media Center > Pictures and Video > My Pictures > Send to Online Album. And apparently I was successful in sending 2 pictures to it. But I don't know the URL address of the Online Album. I also found Media Center > Pictures and Video > Online Album, but it requires a user name and password. The problem here is that I have no idea what those are, or how to register them. Is it the My Verizon login info? I do have a My Verizon account, but it still doesn't help me to view the images on my phone, even if they are on the internet. What I want is to get the pictures from the phone to my computer. I don't mind using the internet to do that, but I do need the URL address of the Online Album. Also, I don't have the data package, because I literally never text. But i'm thinking that sending those 2 pictures is going to incur a charge (just like when I downloaded a wallpaper picture). I wish there could be a block, so that I don't accidentally incur charges, if I haven't purchased the data plan! Anyway, I'm hoping you can tell me either the URL of the Online Album. Or otherwise, how do I get pictures from phone to computer? Thank you very much Smiley Happy Brynn

On my honest opinion I would check into a microSD card with a reader. That would make transferring a whole lot easier
You can get a 2gb one from the site that comes with a microsd card, a memory card, and a reader for like $20. And when you get a new phone you can just put the microsd card in the new phone and you won't have to worry

John (I assume),

I am taking my reply to your “It works on my computer, so it has to be something in your settings” offline so it does not appear to be a criticism or start an unneeded exchange of useless verbiage.

One “problem” with the Verizon Community structure is its posting method. Your reply dated July 12, 2012 is posted in the midst of the discussion just under a post dated June 5, 2011. In addition, there are quite a few postings to Brynn2’s original post, so you may not have read all the responses and thus missed my June 19, 2012 post at the very bottom.

My purpose is only to clarify, not criticize you for your comment. I agree with you since my Exilim once worked too. I also agree that a technology-challenged person can screw up the factory settings, most likely in the computer software, not the phone’s camera settings. I also agree that the Exilim’s default settings result in poor photos and videos by not using its full potential. I disagree that changing the cell’s camera settings will stop it from working unless the camera is actually turned off.

First, go back to the discussion and look for my detailed guidance to Brynn2 that includes settings. It is on the very bottom, remember.

Like yours, my Exilim worked at first by using the supplied CD of software and the custom Windows operating system drivers with the supplied charging / USB cradle. It stopped when I upgraded my Windows operating system from Windows XP to Windows 7. I did not alter any Exilim settings at all from its previously working state. I learned thru all my tech support calls that Verizon / Casio and the phone manufacturer all refused to update the supplied custom operating system driver to provide compatibility with Microsoft Windows 7. As a consequence, the Windows 7-driven computer will not “see” the Exilim that worked in an older operating system. I provide a work-around in my post that essentially requires manual “reading” of the stored content that must be stored on the mini SD card, not the cell’s memory.

If you are technology challenged, leave everything alone. If not, tweak the phone’s settings at least to create a larger image size. If you doubt my advice, install your software on a friend’s Windows 7 computer then try it.

Verizon and other cell companies want you to renew contracts and buy another cell phone, ideally a smart phone that also requires extra “data” fees. So they refuse to retain compatibility when their custom drivers stop working with new operating systems. Verizon finally conceded a huge $30 credit to switch phones with a new contract prior to my two year contract that I did not accept. Another lesson I learned is to ensure my next cell uses standard Windows drivers with a direct USB 2 or USB 3 wire connection.

I am hoping you will find this as intended: informative. FYI: Given Brynn2’ original posting date and non-response to us, she could have been using a Windows 7 computer and I assume she has resolved her issue somehow. Bill

If the end that doesn't plug into your phone is a USB plug, then yes, it can plug into your computer. When you get it plugged in, open up your folders on your computer, and you will see an extra folder that you have never seen before with probably a weird name, open that folder and that will be your phones folder, you may have to surf around on the folder a little bit to find your pictures, but once you do.  You can click click and drag the pictures to a new folder that you create that is on your computer.

You don't need a data package to text but if you have no texting package and only want to send a few it costs very little, like 20 cents each or something or 25.  Mary

I so agree.  It seems like if people have the slot they waste more time trying to get the USB plug to work rather than buy a card and reader but I can understand if money is an issue and the phone comes with the USB plug that's cheaper.  As you said you can then use it on any phone you get so money well spent.    Mary

Click here for a microSD card and reader

This one is $19.99, I think that you would find it a good investment. I have a 16GB microSD card in my X, but I don't have a reader because my laptop and desktop have microSD card slots and this mircoSD card came with my phone. I will take it out when I get a new phone so I won't have to worry about losing my pictures. Also, this link is a microSD card and reader that is compatible with your phone and any USB port on a computer

That's a great deal.  I have always had sandisk cards and readers and they work great and are very reliable.  You need to be careful with the micro cards.  If you have long nails and brown carpeting and you pop it across the room when you take it out of the phone slots it's very tuff to find.   Needless to say I didn't vaccum for a week determined to find it and I did.  Mary

I don't understand why they put it behind the battery if it's going to be used a lot.  Mary

Neither do I, but with most smartphones it is really easy to transfer pictures with the usb cable. I take mine out cause it is annoying doing it through the cable

Well, I don't use System Restore on a regular basis. I think I've only ever used it once, and that was on a different computer. But I still would like to avoid it, so if you could tell me who I should contact about this driver thing, I would really appreciate it. Do you think just call Verizon customer service (star something from the phone)(or else I have the number somewhere)? I will look into the card reader thing if I can't fix the driver problem. Thanks for your research on that! (OT -- DbG2514, I was born in Ala, and always wanted to go to Auburn U. But my family moved away before I finished highschool. I'm tellin ya, football is not the same anywhere else, lol!)

Correct me if I am wrong but the maker of the phone makes the drivers not verizon.  You might go on the site for the maker of the phone and contact them with your problems and see what they say.  I bet if you google you can find some forums dealing with this phone and issue from others that might help.    Mary

Thanks to the community for all your responses.

You can go to the Casio website to download drivers or click here for the link. The memory card and reader is another great option. Let us know if you need further help.

There is nothing like AU football! Your welcome! Make sure when you google stuff about the phone your are searching for the phone not camera. I tried google and found a bunch of stuff for cameras, no phones though.

Thanks everyone for all of your contributions!

I just wanted to add two things.

1. The Exilim comes with software made by Casio used to transfer pictures. It is on one of the CD's that comes with the phone.

2. You can also use V Cast Media Manager, which you can download at http://products.verizonwireless.com/index.aspx?id=fnd_mediaManager

Both of these programs will already have the drivers needed for your phone.

There is no solution to this problem...and there seems to be no solution to the problem created when Verizon updated v cast, and rendered all drivers inoperable. I can no longer upload pictures/movies or download songs using the cradle. The impracticalities of the phone and the lack of support means bye bye casio as soon as possible, and hello Consumer Reports.

Brynn2,

You posted your xfer photos question some two weeks ago so you may have figured it out by now. I am replying to add detail overlooked and correct minor misinformation.

The Verizon "Exilim" is the camera portion made by Casio for this "basic", not "Smart" phone so it has no USB camera port. It’s provided charging / USB cradle and CD-supplied device driver did work when first introduced thru a USB cable to the cradle but no more if you are operating system current. Casio also manufactures the “Exilim” camera, a well-respected device. My point is that other electronic vendors and Verizon's apparent business strategy seems to be to abandon you after you bought the phone and would prefer you sign another two year contract and use a smart phone for "4G" (that is not the real "ITU-R -4G") that may not even exist in your area and absolutely cost you more to use. I cannot repeat what the Verizon phone support person said to me when I upgraded to a new operating system and lost the cell’s driver; but I will say, I reduced my Verizon plan.

I purchased my EXLIM more than two-years ago for 1) its mil-spec or ruggedized rating (I boat a lot) and 2) its camera / video. I would replace it if there were a comparable "ruggedized" phone that did not look like a 2-way phone for a cable guy. So, I had to find a way to extract my photos and videos when I moved on to Windows 7 since there was no help from Verizon, Casio or another company I have since forgotten.

On your Exilim, enter MENU, then SETTINGS AND TOOLS, then PHONE SETTINGS, then MEMORY (option 8), then, CARD MEMORY (option 3). Select options 2 & 3 to store your photos and videos to your CARD MEMORY. That card is the tiny mini SD card under your battery. You may have to use TOOLS to transfer what you now have to the mini SD card from the phone memory. You may also want to optimize your settings for photos and videos while in MENU since the defaults are pathetic.

You will have to manually extract the mini-SD card from your EXILIM and insert it into your computer, a friend's computer or a library computer. If it is not your computer, get a thumb drive (also inexpensive) to copy your photos and video to it. You can also buy an inexpensive SD card reader that will plug into the USB (skinny rectangle) on your PC to accept your SD card / mini SD card.

I agree with the individual that texting the photo to someone else is not satisfactory.
