In case anyone out there knows, does Microsoft offer a direct from the manufacture phone, that you get all firmware and operating system updates directly from them. Kind of like the Nexus from Google. If so is it available on the vzw network?
They sure do. I'm considering getting one of these with an el cheapo pre paid plan just to stay knowledgeable about WP. I am however concerned WP might be in a death spiral. One is even only $89 unlocked. Click the link below.
there's no cdma radio in that phone, is there? pretty sure they won't work on verizon.
That's right. Microsoft offers these phones but only for GSM carriers. Verizon will only activate phones they sold themselves, so no direct-from-Microsoft phones for Verizon users.
If you want a phone that doesn't rely on Verizon for updates, get an iPhone.
No, I have checked with a number of people I know at Microsoft and they all say they don't one. Well maybe one of the trolls gets one but the rest of the world can't get any such animal.
You could try and convince Nokia to do what Samsung does.
Samsung make a batch of Verizon devices and gives Verizon all the IMEI's including the ones they will make developers phones out of.
