Flip to Silence Working?

Does it work?  I had my phone face down and it still rang. Does this only work to silence the ring if you flip it AFTER somebody has called you and the phone has started ringing? And what about email alerts? I had my 928 face down and I still got email alerts.

Nokia Lumia 928

Amber Update installed.

My understanding:  it works for a ringing phone. If someone calls and you don't want to hear ringing for that call, you flip it. You'll hear another ring (at least I have), then it stops. I don't *think* it works for multiple calls.  If you didn't want to hear any incoming calls, you could just set the phone on vibrate. This function allows you to continue to hear the rings, but stop a ring for any particular call when you want. It doesn't have anything to do with emails.

I haven't had the update for long, and only used the flip a few times, so this is just my take based on not a lot of use.

This is darn disappointing!  I was expecting flipping the phone face down to put it into a silent profile. Then when you flipped it back to face up you would be back in normal profile. Flipping to silence a ring after it happens is lame. BlackBerry has had that feature forever.

Just depends on what you're looking for. I like it. If I'm waiting for a call from someone but want to ignore most callers, I can hear the ring and then see who's calling since the phone isn't upside down.  Then if it's not who I need to talk to, flip the phone over to quiet it. If I don't want to hear *any* rings, it goes on vibrate - and can be taken off in a second.  What Blackberry has had doesn't affect me.
