Nokia isn't looking to release the firmware update till early 2014.  Once Nokia releases the firmware update (Black) than it's up the VZW to release it.

Probably the best site to check, http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/availability-in-north-americ...

I had a chat session with Verizon support last week regarding the GDR3 update.  I was told the even though MS and Nokia both tested and approved the update, Verizon had issues with it and are now waiting for MS to implement some fixes.  They could not provide me with any type of timeline.

Depending on how desperate you are to get the update, it is available from the MS Developers site and other users have installed and are using it.  I've not heard of anyone experiencing any problems.  The downside of this is if you do have a problem, Verizon will no longer provide you support.  I personally have not installed the developers update so I can't provide you any first hand experience.

I call B S.  If you look at the link I posted previously no other carrier in the US/Canada is rolling out Black yet.  The only device is the 1020 which came with Black out-of-the box so it doesn't count.

What happened with Amber is that they started with the higher number devices and worked down to the lower number devices.

I saw an update today. So I applied it....does not appear to be Black

OS version is 8.0.1328.78 and it still says Amber.

What did I get as an update?

thanks

Firmware update (not Black) as per wpcenteral, http://www.wpcentral.com/firmware-rolling-out-lumia-handsets-verizon-and-att-no-lumia-black-yet.

It's mostly for those that don't have the GDR3 developers preview on their phone.

As always check, http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/availability-in-north-americ... to see when Black has been released for your phone.

Take this with a grain of salt, but if this is true I'm going to be really upset.

According to a reddit post a user spoke with Nokia support (and Elop) and they are claiming VZW is not going to release Black for the 822, http://www.reddit.com/r/windowsphone/comments/1xrcx1/bad_news_lumia_810_and_822_owners_nokia_confirm... and to add insult to injury they asked not to update their site (http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/availability-in-north-americ...) to not say "Not available" fear of blacklash.

Hasn't VZW heard of the internet and this information not get released?!?!?!

I just noticed on VZW, Advanced Devices - Software Updates | Verizon Wireless page that the 822 has an Last Updated as today.  Signs of black being released today? Last week the date was 02/2013 (don't remember the exact date).

Also it seems the 'Benefits of Software Upgrade' pdf has been update as well, http://support.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/lumia822.pdf.  Lists the software version as 3051.40000.1352.0042 (which is higher version than my 822 with Update 3 preview installed).  Screenshots show's Nokia Camera and Storyteller as well.

It's out! The update primortal mentioned is indeed Black. I just downloaded and installed the update today on my 822, and everything is working great here. Afterwards I was able to download and install Nokia Camera (which previously with Amber installed, it said it wasn't available for download on the 822). It's the best of Nokia Pro and Nokia Smart Cam. Nokia Black should keep people happy until 8.1 - just chill out people, good things are worth waiting for.

By the way, just a friendly hint to all the would-be journalists who wrote up stories less than a week ago spreading rumors that the 822 would never get Black - don't trust random pricks on Reddit or anywhere else on the internet. It's incredible that a couple of sites actually ran with that story. Welcome to the internet, people. Bring lots of salt. Smiley Sad
