My basic phone has lost talk path and I have ordered a new one. But, in the meantime, I need to activate my backup phone until I receive my new phone. How do I do that?

In the MyVerizon account online, there is a link to "Switch or Activate Device" available to change devices online.
If the old phone was previously activated on the same line, if it isn't a 4G LTE phone, it can be activated by calling *228, option 1.

Call VZW customer support and they should be able to get that done for you. I don't know if there is an online option.
