There should be a notification on the Phone tile. Have you set up voicemail on the Lumia?

Yes I have a cover case and it does not last as long as it takes to pull off the cover.
If the cover is not on the phone goes to sleep right after the call and wakes long enough to show the notification and then goes right back to sleep. You can however pull down notifications and see it after you turn your phone on, if you remember to. In the old windows phone is showed up on the phone tile supposedly. Maybe windows 10 will do the same.
Not overly thrilled that I set up voicemail and they put me on a one month free trial of premium visual voicemail. Not sure how to tell them I don't want it.

So on you Start screen you click on the Voice Mail tile, what happens?
If you go to setting > lock screen. Add voice mail to the quick status (if it's already not there).
If you don't want visual voice mail, call them and let them know you don't want to pay $2.99/mon that other carriers provide free as part of their service

Hi Zock. Did you ever resolve this? I just spent an hour with an online rep and couldn't fix it.

This is still an issue. I called Verizon Tech support today, and they were unable to correct the problem. Does anyone have a solution?

Unfortunately there is no solution unless you get verizons app Visual VM and you pay extra. Verizon has disabled the Visual VM that comes with the Windows Phone operating system. I am not sure if its a technical reason or the fact that they just want to charge you for Visual VM.
Keep in mind if you have an Iphone the Visual VM works the way it is supposed to with the operating system and you don't pay extras.
Also if you are on AT&T with a Windows Phone, your visual VM works perfectly. AT&T seems to support the Windows Phone better than Verizon. I really think Verizon has given up on Windows Phone as support for Windows phones is horrible at best. Your better off looking for support from the Windows Central forums or at a Windows Store as this is a Windows Phone fan site.

Had this problem when I first got my Lumia and a tech at Verizon instructed me to go into settings some place and turn off VM and now it shows up on the phone icon that I have voice mail and if I go to the phone there is a little icon at the bottom that also shows how many. I unfortunately I do not know where in settings this is and it might be something only a tech can change.
