I Think It's Time That Verizon Opens Up Testing Of Updates & Firmware To The Windows Phone Community!!!

Waiting for Verizon to release updates on a reasonable time table has become a complete failure.  If you only have a couple technicians in house testing the 4-5 devices you only carry and it takes this long, there's a problem with your technicians.

If you don't want to allocate the time, money and resources to a platform that your sales reps never push or even mention in stores, or on your website or over the phone, I think it's time to either drop the line completely or turn to the Windows Phone Community to do your job for you.

I think it's time that Verizon takes a queue from Microsoft and opens up testing of updates and firmware to any and all Windows Phone Users that want to help the cause and better support the platform in the process.  You can have your legal department draft up a clause that releases Verizon of any liability if a user opts to test updates or firmware.

What else better than to have the Community help in the cause (in masses) over the limited few technicians you have in house testing out the updates and firmware.  You will get all the feedback you will need to make a proper decision as to push the updates or firmware or go back to Microsoft and make fixes to any/all bugs that are found.

In a technological age we live in, to not take advantage of a community of users who would be more than willing to test out products, goods, services, you are just shooting yourself in the foot.

If you look at the numbers of how many users signed up to be part of Microsoft's Developer Preview app, you will see that there are millions of users willing to take the risk in order to help the cause while being a part of the testing process, making the platform better in the long run.

It's time for change, it's time to embrace the community, it's time to respond at let the community know one way or another if we are going to get updates and firmware in a timely manner... and not just one update or firmware in a year cycle.

Windows (9) is going to be released to the general public as Technical Preview on September 30, and you can guarantee that millions of users are going to download the OS and test it out and submit feedback via the OS and Microsoft's Community Forum in order to make it a success...  So why don't you Verizon do the same and open up beta testing of updates and firmware to the Windows Phone Community here!!!

Think about it, take a poll... but do something, one way or another... It's time to stop keeping us paying customers in the dark regarding updates and firmware that improves the experience, enhances our devices and provides the security that we need for our phones.  If you take good care of us, we will continue to be customers, renew our contracts or even sign up for Verizon Edge Accounts.

But if you keep us in the dark, you can guarantee that you will get customers leaving when there contracts are up because Windows Phone Users are loyal to Windows Phone... PERIOD!!!

Waiting for Tidbits and Elector to grace my post with there constant negativity and start a war of words as usual... since they love stirring the pot and angering the Windows Phone Community every time they reply to posts.  I just can't believe they spend that much time here on the forums replying if they are not a paid Verizon employee or a paid basher from a competing platform.

Couldn't have said it better myself!  Tidbits and Elector keep claiming not to be Verizon employees, but I don't know of any non-Verizon employee who would devote half as much time defending Verizon as they do, when an obvious majority of users feel the way we do.  Can a lot of customers wait patiently for updates, yes.  Would most prefer that Verizon either speed up the process or provide feedback to us paying customers?  MOST DEFINITELY!

If Tidbits and Elector believe otherwise, lets put it to a test.  All Forum readers who agree with thejester77 and NOLATechy that Verizon should speed up the process and/or (at the very least) provide feedback as to the status of updates (albeit Windows, Android or otherwise), comment "AGREE" on this forum.  Anyone who agrees with Tidbits and Elector, comment "DISAGREE".

LET THE VOTING BEGIN...

Well I found nothing wrong in your post. So why even make a statement like the quote I included?

Once more I am a retired government employee. So I have the time to post. Or has my rights been taken away to voice an opinion?

Your posts was great you were not whining about your rights to file complaints to the FCC or FTC etc. One of the best I have read.

And I am not trying to sway you from your phone choice. If you looked at my avitar it shows apple iphones. But I use and have used androids and not Windows phones.

However your numbers of windows phone users all leaving over the issue is miniscule in the number of users of Android and iOS devices.

I have written many times I wish all the devices get updated like iOS devices do. But at present that is not happening

No bashing, no adversarial post just a little common sense is all I use.

And again your post was great.

Good Luck

Sorry primortal, I have already been in contact with Executives at Verizon and they couldn't care less about any of this.  I even received "attitude" from the three executives I spoke with on the phone.  Their whole philosphy is "we are powerful, you are nothing, stop bothering us."  I believe thejester77's idea is spot-on!  Verizon would be free from any liability because we would have to sign a release form first and we customers would get the manufacturer's upgrades a LOT faster!  It's a win-win situation.  But unfortunately, that would mean we would be taking away too much power from Big Red which means this will NEVER happen.

Yes that is true, but you forget that Android users are going through this same delay process on their devices and are just as tired of it as we are.  What if all Windows Phone users AND Android users decided we are done with Big Red's delays.  Will Verizon be able to sustain it's business with only iOS users?  Doubtful.

Addendum:  One more comment on this that I believe Verizon should give some serious thought to.  What if Verizon did implement this idea.  This could be a way for Verizon to have AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile customer FLOCKING to Verizon.  Not having to wait for carrier testing would be the BEST advertisement any carrier could have.  This would be way better than family plans, "more everything," earning points, etc.  This would be THE sales gimmick!  If AT&T announced this tomorrow, I would pay out my contract with Verizon, no matter how much I owed, and run to AT&T!  Just a thought for Verizon to consider.

Let me again explain to you "I am not an employee of Verizon wireless and any competing phone maker"

You keep popping up with these childish statements about what you and other windows phone users rights are.

You have been rebuttled each and every time.

Your arguments have been weak. And because you and others with these windows phones started the posts about your rights to updates (you have no legal rights to any updates as has been proven to you and others) from a device that worked when purchased continues to work as I write this, and is not entitled to anything other than the connection to the cellular and data network no matter what provider you use.

I pointed out the android devices are also waiting for patches and updates and they are numerous compared to the small number of windows devices on Verizon's service.

Just look at the forum, "Where is my iPhone 6, or my order date has changed or been canceled or its the wrong device color or not the plus". You will not see this madness over any Windows Device. Just look at the new HTC device that rolled out. No interest.

Also stop with the childish let's vote who is right or wrong. Are we back in school?

I don't say updates should not be given if device makers and OS developers make them available. I simply say to wait it out and knock off the entitlement posts of demanding them. Its like children stamping their feet saying " I want it, give it to me now" my lord my little niece and nephew use to act like that over 30 years ago. It didn't bother me then and all this same crying from windows users don't sway me now.

Really, stop stamping your feet and act like adults. When or if its released you will get it.

How much plainer can I say it?

You know I liked the posters idea. But....yeah there is always a but!

The forums would be hit with the same complaints of my device does not work this way or that way, my screen freezes, my WiFi does not connect, my Bluetooth stopped working, my sound is to low, I lost all my music.

If this is happening now with android updates and iOS updates (which Verizon had nothing to do with) why would Verizon open themselves up for more whines and threats?

If all devices were updated solely by device makers and Verizon posted a notice saying all tech support and warranty exchanges are to be done via said device makers. How do you think that would go over?

Its a crazy process and personally the carriers should just submit their network standards and have device makers handle the whole process.

KitKat Upgrade is horrible for Droid RAZR Maxx HD - Major issues - Horrible testing

Just read the forum post above. This is what I am speaking/writing about.

Notice the complaints first for the update. And then the issues after. And the I never should have taken the update, and the best one of "Verizon fix this update now. You should have tested longer"

You see a pattern here. I could give links over and over. And from windows forums at AT&T.
