I can't activate my phone!

I got a used phone from a friend, it's the HTC SMT5800. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the phone, it was new when they got it; why can't I activate it? When I called the *228 number, it goes through everything and then in the end it says my phone can not be programmed and I should call customers service. I have yet to do so since I don't have access to a land-line at the moment.

What do you think is the issue?

Kinomly, if you are still unable to activate your phone, I would be more than happy to assist you with getting it activated.  I know you mentioned you got your phone from a friend; has your friend ensured that the device was not still active on one of their lines and that the electronic serial number (ESN or MEID) is clear (not on any type of deny list)?

 

It could also be a compatibility issue with your current calling plan and/or data feature(s) that may be required for the type of phone you are wanting to activate.

There could be a problem with the phone itself, or the handling of the chage from phone to phone (Changing numbers etc). I think you should take it the your local Verizon store where someone who knows alot more than I do help you out.
