It used to just be months ago when I'd get a corrupt text message because my wife who is on a smart phone would include an emoji in the text message. Then all I'd receive are a bunch of small squares broken in multiple messages and the subject says [No content].
Now I'm getting them more often, from my sister and a coworker. People just try to send me some regular text and sometimes I get it, and sometimes not. Just plain text, no emojis.
What's going on with the texting service? It doesn't seem to be standard code anymore.
My phone is an LG enV3.

Receiving blank messages in place of plan text is understandably a huge concern, TUNDRA4X4PLAY00. Let's dig into this further. What type of device (i.e. iPhone, Android, etc.) are you receiving these messages from? Is this happening with one specific sender, or multiple? What messaging application is the sender using?

Lynn,
I also have an LG Env 3. I am seeing the No Content messages from multiple senders, mostly ones on iPhones, and I think they are all on the Verizon.network.

We appreciate those details TUNDRA4XPLAY00. What is included in the messages when you are experiencing these issues (i.e. special characters, attachments etc.)? Are you having any trouble with sending messages to those numbers?

A little more testing and my wife's Android phone sends quotes and apostrophes okay, it's still just the emoji's that corrupt the message.
Right now I get corrupt messages if it has a quote or apostrophe and is being sent from an iPhone, specifically tested with an iPhone 6 with iOS 11.0.3. On October 12th my sister sent me a corrupt message then got pissed I couldn't receive it then sent me a screen shot picture of her texts. Two of her messages contained apostrophes (you know, proper grammar) and she does have an iPhone and I'm not sure of the version or OS.
So for me emoji's from both Androids and iPhones corrupt the message. And quotes and apostrophes from only iPhones corrupt the message.
The image below is what I get when an iPhone sends me just one quote ".

MrTom0000, We appreciate you completing some test text messages. I understand how frustrating unknown text messages can be. We're here to help. The good news is that your phone is working as it should. The reason you're receiving icons oppose to emojis that your basic phone doesn't support graphics from a smartphone. Therefore, graphics from a basic phone to basic phone are supported. And graphics from smartphone to smartphone are supported. I hope this is beneficial.

djk9429, Receiving blank messages can be confusing. Anytime messages sent to you that has any type of graphics it will appear on your phone as symbols. A basic phone doesn't support graphics from a smartphone. I hope this is helps.

Ahh, you didn't read my post, did you? I said I got those icons when someone with an iPhone sent me a text with a quote in it. You know, the " symbol. The whole message gets icons when someone with an iPhone sends me a text message with an apostrophe too. You know, the ' symbol.
Does anyone who work at Verizon really knows what's going on? Probably not. You people have no clue. You're just jerking us around with nonsense replies. The network is damaged. And I'm guessing Apple is to blame, since it seems to be mostly coming from their phones. But it's using everyone's network, so I'd imagine everyone should be concerned about this. Yes, even Verizon.
When will this get resolved? I can't get messages. No messages means an angry customer. An angry customer means a canceled Verizon plan. A canceled Verizon plan means no money for you.

Likely the only way to resolve it is to get a better phone or block text messages altogether on your line until you update the phone to one that is capable of receiving those messages.

Buy new hardware. Not the correct answer.
They (someone) just recently broke the network a few months ago. Why can't they just fix what they broke?
This same thing happened about 2 years ago. I found a google forum where many people had an issue. Then it just went away after a couple of days and back to normal. Where as now it has lasted way more than just a couple of days. And I'm not the only one affected by this, many other people still use 'non' smart phones because it's more practical and way more cost effective. Not everyone likes to waste money on a small handheld device.

There are LTE basic phones now. Did you even consider I was also referring to those phones along with the smartphones?

Hi! I've just read the entire thread that you had started on this subject. I agree with you! I believe Apple caused this problem. Specifically, it seems to be tied to the release of their most recent update. Before they released OS 11.?? I was not having any problems receiving text messages, unless my friends forgot and included an emoticon. After my iPhone friends got the last update, I've had nothing but problems.

I've done some more experiments today from a friend using an iPhone. I get a garbage message whenever I receive an apostrophe ' or quotes or even just one quote ". And of course whenever I receive an emoji from a smart phone.
Why do I get a garbage text when I receive even just one quote? Example, when I receive I'll be back in a text message from a smart phone it turns into garbage. Or if someone sends me Hi "Bob" from a smart phone it turns into garbage.
Here's a forum of people having this issue 2 years ago while using Google Voice. It seemed to have fixed it self in a couple of days for those people, but this issue has been around for many years.
I wish this would get fixed, as I don't want to spend more money buying new hardware just because someone broke the network for "dumb" phones.
People, try your own experiments and have someone text you either an emoji, an apostrophe or quotes from a smart phone and see what happens.

I'm still receiving garbled messages. I've received no help. My sister tried to send me something for Thanksgiving and it didn't show up, there was just a bunch of squares.
This is ridiculous.
Why can't Verizon Wireless find out what's going on and fix it?
Is this just how it's going to be from now on?
Bad and corrupt messages to the less fortunate and those who are struggling financially?
I'd hate to be a really old person with one of these phones relying on some important information that may be life or death, just to find out you get a bunch of squares.

This is not a Verizon issue. Instead, it is is an Apple issue from their latest iOS 11 release.
To fix -
On the iPhone go to settings > general > keyboard. There you can turn “smart punctuation” off. This should take care of your issue.

To be more specific, it seems to be only when an apostrophe or a double quote is sent from the iPhone. This should help with your testing before and after they make the change above.

IT WORKS!
(On the iPhone go to settings > general > keyboard. There you can turn “smart punctuation” off.)
My own tests over the past month+ had led me to conclude (as did other posters) that this was a problem in iOS 11, but having no idea how to solve it, all I could do was check back here in the hope that some day someone would post a solution.
And thanks to you, that day has now come.
Much gratitude to Bobcat.IT - and also to MrTom0000 for having started this thread.
