I waited this long, dawned on me to just wait till next round of phones come out.

So sitting around these past couple of weeks I've had a lot of time to read more articles about WP7 then any one person ever should. And in the last week the tone of some of the articles have turned to a anti-trophy stance. Now this is just my take on everything so don't flame, but here is my opinion.

While releasing an old phone is standard when coming late into the game, there isnt a huge apprecation for the Trophy . Im just not getting that  overall excitement that I heard when the iPhone came out. With the recent Mango features announcment and rumored new hardware, i have to think that the trophy is like getting a PS2 when you can wait 6 months and get a PS3. Are single processor smartphones going the way of the dinosaur? I dont want to be stuck with a phone for 2 years while i watch dual processors/new battery technology come out.

Ill just pretend im back in november of last year waiting for Verizon to release a phone worth getting.

there will always be something newer and better that comes out right after you upgrade

you wait for dual core, and quad core will be announced

wait for next os version, and its obsolete before you get it

its just the way things are.

you just need to decide when to jump in, no phone will remain cutting edge for 2 years, maybe 2 weeks

I couldn't agree more. What's to say that by the time Mango is released, some handset maker doesn't announce that in June 2012 they are going to release a 2 GHz phone with 64 GB of memory and an 8 MP camera running WP7. If you are always waiting for the latest and greatest tech toy you'd never buy anything.

I, for one, have waited for this phone long enough. I don't even care that the hardware is 6 months old, I just want it. I'll get a Trophy now and in two years see what's out there.

I, for one, cannot wait any longer.  We're looking at potentially six months, give or take, before Mango is released.  That doesn't mean we will be getting actual devices to purchase in six months.  Call me a skeptic, but I am of the mind that Verizon subscribers will not have a Mango device until first half of 2012.  I'm not willing to wait that long after waiting for almost a year with an upgrade on hold.

Hopefully I'm wrong but I'm not willing to make that bet.  And let's say they are going to be releasing new devices at Mango release.  I'm okay with having this hardware that's a year old.  It doesn't make my phone any less of a phone.  I'm not the kind of person who has to have the newest and greatest hardware that's out there.  I would be broke if that were the case.

I don't care about 4G.  I don't care about dual-core.  I don't care about 4+" screen.  I don't care about having a compass, etc.  Heck, I don't even care that the Trophy doesn't have more than 16GB of storage.  I'll be doing a lot of streaming and use my Zune HD for my car since I already have a setup for it to work perfectly.

What I want is Windows Phone 7, and I want it yesterday.  And I want Verizon to know that there are people who want Windows Phone 7.

First thing I do this Thursday is order my HTC Trophy online.  I'm not waiting for something in the future when I have something great in the present waiting for me.

I agree.  I've been waiting since last year in March when I saw a prototype, and I was smitten.  No matter when you jump in, there will always be something else coming shortly behind.  I'll get mine on Thursday, but I'll have to make a phone call to do so.  Give me customer retention department, and use the leverage that I have gained by becoming an ATT customer.  See what kind of deal I can negotiate, and get it shipped overnight.  Here's my list for negotiation:

Trophy for $149 without having to wait for mail in rebate

waive activation fee

cancel my early termination fee

overnight shipping included

I'll try to think of more...  :smileywink:

I was going to write a respond, but then I read your and I am like, you are right.  I am in the same boat and come Thursday morning, I am ordering my Trophy and hoping to get it by Saturday...Wow..that will be sweet.  I will deal with the now today and I see what tomorrow will bring, but for now, give me my trophy.

I'm going out of town on Friday Morning.  Got a wedding to attend.  My plan of attack is to order the Trophy overnight on Thursday and have it delivered to my parents house (it's along the way to our destination 6 hours away).  If it isn't there when we arrive, my parents can bring it along to the wedding since they aren't traveling until Saturday.  I HOPE Verizon has overnight shipping and it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.  After waiting over a YEAR for a Verizon WP7 phone, I can't wait any longer and want to play with it over the weekend and show off my new toy!

As for waiting for bigger and better devices.... If you take that attitude I'm afraid you'll never buy a new ANYTHING.  Get it now and down the road you can always sell it for a better device which is my plan (or I may give it to my wife when her contract ends in November).

Cheers!

Unfortunately, I do not yet have a smartphone so if I want the unlimited data plan, I have to jump in real soon before Verizon gets rid of them this summer.

I've been waiting for a Verizon WP7 basically since the beta was previewed last February and I was due for an upgrade in November. Normally I could probably, maybe keep waiting it out until Verizon got some actual good devices since I've already waited this long, but I think data plans will be restructured by then. Not to mention that I'd probably have to wait 4 more months for Mango to be released, maybe another month or two for hardware to come out, and then add Verizon's "testing" **bleep** and account for their glacial pace/disinterest and you're looking at almost another year of waiting.

As lame as the Trophy is, I think I'm gonna have to get one.

P.S. Where you at Samsung???

You can always sell your Trophy if something new and "must have" comes out in the first 12 months. For $150 to get in, you'll at least get your $ out, and then when your contract is up, you can (if you want) sell that must have device when your contract is up and up and get something new again....

If you're worried about resale, you can buy some protectoin for yourself if you buy at BestBuy....

Point is there's always a way out ...

History will confirm that whatever come out, chances are it will show up on AT&T 3-6 months before we see it here so if you don't buy in now, be prepared to wait....

And consider this, what is it you're waiting for?

- Dual CPU- you really need this? reviews on performance say that the current processor is reasonably fast.

- front facing camera? I've had one on my laptop for 4 years- I use it, but I can live without it -

- Bigger SD- Hmmm- yeah, I'd like 120GB and retire my Zune... but it'll be a while before we see 120GB on a micro SD... in the mean time, there's always that unsupported route for an SD swap....

I can see waiting for something specific, but make sure you know what it is and ask yourself honestly if you really think it's worth waiting for when there's no commitment for anything from VZW.

Better yet, ask yourself why you are still on VZW - (I did, and looks like I'm staying for at least another product cycle) - mostly because of the data plan. EDIT: Depending on how my conversation goes with the sales rep on Thursday.
