Internet Sharing not working on HTC Trophy

So we got an update that allows for internet sharing.  When I try to use it, every device I try it on sends me to a Verizon web page which says my phone is not enabled for hotspots.  I have already switched to the new family sharing plan which allows for this.  I have read in Microsoft Support Forums that many others are having this problem.  Is there anyone who's figured this out?

Hello elmortero,

The Mobile Hotspot feature has been a life saver on many occasions for me!  I want you to be able to take advantage of this awesome feature!  We are currently investigating the relation of the Trophy to the Share Everything plans for Mobile Hotspot.  I appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this.

Thank You,

I got mine to work once when the update first rolled out, but now I can't get it to work and it takes me to the we page saying I need to add20 dollars to my plan for mobile hot spots andsuch.  But I'm on a share everything plan even when it worked once for me, and now nothing.  Now sure what to do, and if I need to infest in more in a shared mobile hot spot plan.

Thank you for responding back.  I am anxious to start using this as this is why I switched to the share everything plan.

Any word on when I can start using my hotspot functionality?  It's been almost a month now.

This sounds like a MNAI (Multiple Network Access Interface) problem. What this means is that in the old "separate" tethering senarios, Verizon had the network set up to use TWO separate access points, or gateways. One for data going to the phone, and another for data going through the tethering app, for separate logging and billing purposes.  Now with tethering "included" with the SE plans, all data is going through the standard "phone" gateway, but your phone is still set up to use the "old" system which is sending you through the "tethering" gateway to the tethering signup page.  My thinking is, that since an update was required to enable this functionality on the Trophy in the first place, another one will be required to fix the NAI issue. Basically the gateway name needs to be changed, and since this is hard-coded in the update software that was issued, another corrective (small) update will be needed, unless VZW can re-direct the data on the back end, or else "authenticate" the tethering NAI on their Remote Access Servers under the new sharing plans.

And, no, investment in a higher Share Data plan will NOT resolve this issue.

On the day that the update came out, I tried to share, and was taken to the web page you refer to.  Later I found that you needed to change to a share everything plan to get the hotspot functionality free.  I did so.  Again, it took me to the web page.  I called customer service, and they took me through some troubleshooting, then we decided that it may take some time.  Since I am a techie, I realize that with some things this is the case, as sometimes settings need to replicate through to other servers in the system before they are recognized system-wide.  The CSR was willing to put in a ticket then, but since it was late at night, I was just as happy to wait until morning and see if it worked.  It didn't.  I called back, and the person I talked to transferred me to another department, where I don't know what kind of magic that guy worked, but he enabled the sharing on both of the Trophies on my account.  Now I use it almost every day.  It might take a phone call or two, and it would be nice if Verizon would figure out what it is that causes this problem and fix it system-wide rather than make us call in to get it fixed, but it can be fixed.  Good luck to you.  BTW - I think it was a networking department they transferred me to, IIRC.

Thanks for the advice hopmedic.  I will call Support when I have a little time to burn on the phone and try to get this working.
