Internet sharing in HTC m8 for window

I know that the htc m8 for window is unlocked. How about the internet sharing function? Is that locked to Verizon sim only? If I use local carrier, will this function be disabled?

Thank you for reaching out to us, kschung9. Getting the most out of your phone where ever you are is definitely important! Typically, the mobile hotspot service feature is locked to the carrier, so if you try to use this feature abroad, it may not work properly. If your M8 still features USB connection, or Bluetooth mobile data share, those options should still work. You may also want to see if the local carrier has an application they recommend from the Windows Phone Store.

If the local carrier support the internet sharing function (Hotspot), M8 for window won't work because it is locked verizon only?

Thank you for following up, kschung9. That's correct. The hotspot feature that is found on our phones are locked to us only. You can try it, but it likely will not function. Sorry about that.

Wasn't there an FCC rule that carriers had to leave ALL 4g capabilities of a phone unlocked and usable for free? Or, was that only if the phone stays on the carrier? I know there was something along these lines, and VZW actually caused this rule to be made by charging unreasonable costs for 3g hotspot sharing, and also using data caps if the phone was older than 2 years.

Grandfathering in effect you are BOUND by the old terms and conditions if you are on unlimited plan.  If you switch to a tiered plan then you are bound by the new terms and conditions.  If you are on the unlimited plan you have to pay for tethering(some people used hacks and other applications  to get tethering). What happened is Verizon couldn't stop you from downloading said apps not stop people from doing something against their agreements.
