Is not supposed that the basic phones, basic service should be inexpensive?

25 dollars for 3 calls of 4 minutes? in this month? is there anything true basic for emergency only?

We the people should be stronger and create a front of pressure to protect ourselves

from abusive companies like VERIZON? Should not the government help

us the people with low income to have an affordable cell phone? just for emergencies?

the rest can be managed  with our home phone.!

What? In all our years on Verizon with basic phones we never paid $25 for 3 calls that short, where the heck are you calling? My husband's contract with him and son on it have been done a long time and they are finally going to switch to another provider in a few weeks and are getting unlimited talk and text for $35 each a month, much cheaper than what they are paying for 2 basic phones on Verizon.

My friends that don't use their phones much all went to trac phones and are quite happy. One friend buys her trac phone where it comes with 1500 minutes good for a year worth of minutes for $99 and she gets triple minutes for life when she has to re-up but she found it was cheaper to just get a new phone when the year was up and all her minutes left transferred to the new phone.

I got my 85yr old Mom a basic trac phone for when I drop her at the store in case she has to call me to come early. $40 for the phone and it came with 400 minutes for the year plus triple minutes for life. When the year is up I will just buy a new phone and transfer the minutes left. Mary

Yes I had to pay the minimum payment acceptable as per Verizon that is $25 and this money disappeared in 30 days and I just dialed four local numbers!

May be somebody knows what service exist for people like me that I am most of the time at home but this is my way to call in case that I am walking the dog or so.

but anyway isn't it being robbed? how expensive could be keeping a number in a communication system? isn't the radio frequencies and the data network a nation's property that is given to providers to be used ?

If you want the phone ONLY for emergencies, simply cancel your service. You will STILL be able to use the phone to dial 911 for emergencies and you will have NO COST at all.Smiley Happy

If you want a service with Verizon, though, it appears their lowest cost plan is $35/month for basic phones. They used to have a pay as you go prepaid plan, but it is no longer available.

You may be able to find a lower cost plan at another provider, but I am unfamiliar with their prepaid plans.
