LG Extravert 2 keyboard special symbols

There are special symbols above the  Z X and M keys on the keyboard.   What do they do?  How to get them to do it?

(The symbols above the Shift and SpaceBar keys seem to work ok, but these don't do anything)

Press and hold the keys to get the "symbol" action -

Z=vibrate mode

X=looks like the "text to speech" or "speech to text" symbol

M=turns speaker phone on or off

The Shift appears to open a message/email (press and hold the shift key)

I'm not sure what the space bar does when you press and hold
