I own an LG Cosmos 2 that I'm going to upgrade from soon. I've been trying to backup my current contacts, because my last backup was in 2013 with an old phone number, and my contacts from my old phone number are obsolete. I am using backup assistant from the app store, and I am having so much trouble. I was initially told by tech support that I need to go into backup assistant, and then "options", and then "about", and to type in *73738# but this won't work. I can't even get to "options". I changed my number last year and now when I go to Backup Assistant, it says "your mobile # has changed press ok" I press ok and it asks for me to enter my pin, which I do. Then it says (as my old number appears toward the bottom of the screen) "the account already exists. Call customer service." The first representative I spoke with tried to help me, and we were unfortunately disconnected. The second rep. said that she didn't know what to do and that I should write all of my contacts down on paper and then perform a factory reset on the phone. There has to be a better way! I have way too many contacts. Can someone please help me?

Hello Bri13
I'm sorry your having issues backing up your device. Are you able to delete the application redownload it and try to back up? Are you getting an error message? Are you able to see your contacts online at www.verizonwireless.com/myverizon

Hi there,
I'm unable to delete it because it's not a feature that the phone offers. I
also can't use the secret *73783# thing to remove/restart it because the
error code telling me that I need to contact customer support keeps coming
up. Every time I try the backup, my old number pops up. When I go online to
view my contacts, they are all my old ones from my old number, which are
almost all obsolete. All the advice that customer service representatives
have given me hasn't worked, except for the "writing them all down on
paper" advice. I thank you for contacting me Joel. I'm not trying to be a
jerk, but if I come off as one, it's because I'm so frustrated. I have been
passed back and forth between so many representatives who are unable to
help me with this that I'm going insane and considering just dropping off
of the family plan, rather than upgrading my phone. I understand that I
have a basic phone, but smart phones haven't always existed, so I'm just
finding it very hard to believe that no one on the verizon team knows how
to solve this issue. I was told by the last customer service rep. whom I
spoke on the phone with that this was my fault because I have a basic
phone, and I find that to be unacceptable. So that's the situation that I'm
in right now.

Can you possibly backup the contacts by importing them to the sim?

It was my understanding that Verizon is a CDMA network and does not use sim
cards. Also, My phone is an LG Cosmos 2 and does not even have an SD card.

The cosmos2 does have an SD card, it's located under the battery door to the left you should be able to send youur contacts to the card.

I must have an older model then because that's not the case, unfortunately. There's nothing under the battery.

It should look like a metal grate looking thing, and there is a plastic piece right behind it. Should be located in the same area the camera key is, on the other side directly perpendicular. The model number is VN251, or no? I have one of these phones now, and i bought it launch day for my sister, it def has an SD card.

Yeah, I got the Cosmos 2 and 3 mixed up. I remember having transferred contacts to my SD on my old flip phones. You're right.

You could also use the Web feature of the Cosmos 2 if you have a limted data plan and set up a Google account and then back up to Google. Also a later versions of Cosmos 2 did take a Micro SD card. see user manual link: http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/lg_cosmos/cosmos.pdf see pages 21 and 22 for location.

You might try bitpim software:
www.bitpim.org
If you can get it to pull your contacts off your phone and onto your computer, you then might be able to transfer them to your new phone ... all depends on compatibility, of course.

Bitpim doesn't support my phone model. It was definitely worth the try
though, so thank you. I'm just gonna give up and manually write them down.
Thanks for everyone's help!

see user manual link: http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/lg_cosmos/cosmos.pdf see pages 21 and 22 for location. Both Hunter B and I know this phone and it does have a somewhat hidden SD card slot. Recheck again and you can save all those contacts and the writing.
