I've been following the WP forum a lot lately in hopes someone has word that Verizon has woken up. I've been a Verizon customer for the last four years and off and on previously for another four years...why we left AT&T in the middle of 2000, I don't know.

Today, I will receive a new Lumia 710 bought off contract for $269...so less than several top Android phones and the iPhone 4S on contract. I realize specs-wise, that isn't a fair comparison. The fact contracts have gotten so bloated due to overpriced phones is a reasonable point here though. It would be interesting to see the popularity of phones in North America and elsewhere around the world where carriers that currently subsidize phones cease doing so.

Anyway, I'm leaving Verizon today for T-Mobile monthly 4G. For the cost of text and data, I can get unlimited everything, granted it's only 100 mb at "4G" of data. Over a 2 year period, I'd be paying roughly $2,160 (not counting taxes) to Verizon for the $39.99 voice, $20 texting, and $30 data. Instead, I'm going to save nearly $1,000 by using the $50 unlimited everything plan option at T-Mobile. And I think even more because I'd only be paying sales tax and not all the other fees associated with cell phones.

My fiancee has been against my switch from Verizon, but I have and will continue to look for free apps that utilize our unlimited data (she's grandfathered into Verizon) to make our talking and texting free to one another.

skype. if skype has a version for windows phones, then just use it and it shouldn't count against her minutes when you call each other.

There is a Skype beta that works great, and also Tango which is across all 3 major platforms.  Once the Lumia 900 is out on AT&T it'll be tough to stick it out on Verizon.

Congratulations on your new purchase.  No regrets, it sounds like you got on a great plan and a great device.  It also sounds like your fiancee is a tech-person.  Let her know that she can add your new number to her Friends and Family Circle Plan on Verizon and you won't have to pay for calls.  The Skype setup will be cool too.

Can we bet now on who she has her next contract with and what kind of phone you will be buying her!

Time to take these complaints to Verizon Wireless Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/verizon   If there is enough noise on their page where there are 2 million plus followers we might get some response from VZW.

I have had plans for leaving for ATT for the Nokia 900, but I have spent a great deal of time on Facebook and Twitter venting my frustrations about the lack of Windows Phone devices on Verizon.  Got a call today from the customer loyalty team out of the blue.

They said I am not the only customer asking for more Windows Phones, but they just don't have any right now.  They were adamant on what they could do to try to get me to stay with them.  I said, a free HTC Trophy that doesn't count against my upgrade!  (Earlier in the discussion I had explained how the Trophy was to old at this point at wasting an upgrade on).

She made a note on my account and was going to check to see if they could swing that for me, or, at the very least, offer to me at a really discounted price without counting for my upgrade.  Should expect to hear something back by tomorrow on it.

I don't expect for this to happen though, but a free HTC Trophy with no contract extension may tide me over until fall perhaps, but I am affraid that Nokia 900 will just be to tempting.

Verizon should sell unlocked HTC Trophies thru Microsoft Stores for $99-$149 unlocked Verizon to appease VZW Customers. I know they want people on LTE and the new Android and iPhone devices (that cost VZW $2 Billion in losses last quarter) but the reality is they're shooting themselves in the foot with the present strategy. The finances are black and white and without the steady streatm of cheap RIM device sales ( and $10 tack on BIS plans to unsuspecting customers who think they need that to fetch email) that will hurt VZW more and more.

The phones Verizon are selling the most are COSTING THEM THE MOST and killing revenue. Haha.

VZW phone marketing tells a lot of BS and often fails to deliver. I'd get in writing what you expect as your account will magically have an April 2014 upgrade eligibility when you get your "free" Trophy (currently $29 online w/ contract).

I heard back on Saturday.  The rep said she couldn't get it approved with her immediate supervisor, and they sent it on up the later to see if they could work something out for me.  They are aware that I want one WITHOUT a contract extention.  If they were to say I was approved, I was already going to get something in writing for sure, but like I said, I don't expect this to work.  Still eying the 900.  April 29th can't come soon enough.
