Microsoft has started rolling out Lumia Cyan with Windows Phone 8.1 to Lumia devices. With Windows Phone 8.1, Lumia Cyan owners will get several new features, including a third column in the launcher, Wi-Fi Sense, the new Notification and Action center, and — perhaps most importantly — Cortana.

On the Lumia-specific front, Lumia Cyan brings an updated camera experience with a newly simplified Nokia Camera interface "with one-tap access to edit and share" your photos. Creative Studio 6 is bringing new filters and image enhancement tools, but it's yet available from the Windows Phone Store.

The new Device Hub in Cyan makes it easier to track your connected accessories. By combining awareness of which devices are connected, when they're connected, and where they're connected (and when and where they loose that connection), Device Hub can tell you exactly where you last left that gadget. It will also offer app recommendations for use with said accessories.

Owners of the Nokia Lumia Icon and Nokia Lumia 1520 will see additional enhancements from Lumia Cyan. Already powerhouses when it comes to camera recording, the two phones are also getting enhanced audio recording with Nokia Rich Recording and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 sound. Screen Share will be integrated with the two smartphones, so you can, well, share your screen. And the SensorCore SDK Beta will also be integrated, bringing additional motion and location data to apps and accessories.

Lumia Cyan is rolling out starting today around the world, though it may not be immediately available for your device. Microsoft states that it will be "available for all Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices in the coming weeks."

So check it out, give it a download, and let us know what you think of Lumia Cyan!

Great news, but this only means that the update was sent to Verizon who will "test" it on their network to ensure it works ok.  But, at least, thanks to Microsoft, we KNOW that Verizion has the update and any delay is THEIR FAULT!  We WILL know whom to blame if their is a long delay in getting this update and I WILL file a complaint with the FCC if this update takes too long to come.  There are important updates and features that I we will receive from this firmware update and as paying customers we deserve to receive it in a timely manner.  SO DON'T DELAY THIS UPDATE VERIZON!

Agreed. From reading articles on Windows Phone Central and other similar websites, it looks like all of the other carriers are pushing this update. People across the globe are seeing the update and tons of users report that they successfully updated their phones to Cyan. There is no excuse for Verizon to delay this update for more than a day or two. Anything beyond that is unacceptable. Testing should be mostly complete as the Preview for Developers has been out for quite some time and has been receiving updates. It sort of feels like Verizon's Windows Phone customers are a last priority.

I just got off the phone with a Verizon rep and it sounds like it will take a while. She said they definitely had the update but couldn't see a rollout schedule for passing it to their customers. She then clarified that she was referring to the update for the Nokia Icon from May 7, as seen here: Advanced Devices - Software Updates | Verizon Wireless

Clearly she did not see the new Windows 8.1 Update or the Cyan update to that. Makes me think Verizon customers are in for a LONG wait. At this efficient rate of theirs, we'll get Cyan come winter.

We it looks like some bad news for those of us with the Developer Preview installed.  We might have to roll back to Windows Phone 8 before we can upgrade to Cyan; when it's released.

Microsoft halted the 12400 build that was released to those part of the Developer Preview due an issue with devices issued to them via their company that have BitLocker enabled.  The update (including Cyan) was hosing the devices because the required key to decrypt the phone is needed.

Only need to roll out of Dev Preview to get 8.1 if A.) 8.1 is already available for your phone to download and install via your carrier (which, for most of the U.S. is none) and B.) if you have BitLocker installed.  Regardless, they halted the Cyan update to the Dev Preview.

Im anxious for for WP8.1 and the Cyan update as well. But Im not really expecting anything to roll out for a few weeks.

(Nokia) Now Microsoft has just begun releasing 8.1 on  certain NEW devices. Those devices come with 8.1 installed as well as the firmware version called Cyan. However, the current line of devices that Verizon carry still only come with WP version 8.0 and firmware version Black. We have to wait for Verizon to test both the software and the firmware before we get the updates to our phones.

So I do a daily check with the 'Update my Phone' in the settings option, but I don't get surprised or upset by lack of updates.

However, it would be nice if Verizon would give some info regarding the progress of testing but like most big companies, they are clueless of what real customer service is.

For those who want a Live Tile to see if the update is available for their phone instead of constantly doing an update every hour.  Take a look at this app, http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/cyan-update/cee9ba3b-e3df-44c7-a2ec-787e989cebee

Also updates normally roll out after 1pm.

And we'll keep waiting.

Unfortunately VZW has a horrible track record for releasing updates in a timely manner.

If it makes you feel any better.  Currently there is no US carrier that has released the update....
