Lumia Cyan with Windows Phone 8.1 roll-out starts today (7/15/2015)

Microsoft has started rolling out Lumia Cyan with Windows Phone 8.1 to Lumia devices. With Windows Phone 8.1, Lumia Cyan owners will get several new features, including a third column in the launcher, Wi-Fi Sense, the new Notification and Action center, and โ€” perhaps most importantly โ€” Cortana.

On the Lumia-specific front, Lumia Cyan brings an updated camera experience with a newly simplified Nokia Camera interface "with one-tap access to edit and share" your photos. Creative Studio 6 is bringing new filters and image enhancement tools, but it's yet available from the Windows Phone Store.

The new Device Hub in Cyan makes it easier to track your connected accessories. By combining awareness of which devices are connected, when they're connected, and where they're connected (and when and where they loose that connection), Device Hub can tell you exactly where you last left that gadget. It will also offer app recommendations for use with said accessories.

Owners of the Nokia Lumia Icon and Nokia Lumia 1520 will see additional enhancements from Lumia Cyan. Already powerhouses when it comes to camera recording, the two phones are also getting enhanced audio recording with Nokia Rich Recording and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 sound. Screen Share will be integrated with the two smartphones, so you can, well, share your screen. And the SensorCore SDK Beta will also be integrated, bringing additional motion and location data to apps and accessories.

Lumia Cyan is rolling out starting today around the world, though it may not be immediately available for your device. Microsoft states that it will be "available for all Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices in the coming weeks."

So check it out, give it a download, and let us know what you think of Lumia Cyan!

Just read the last paragraph you wrote. Start at "We are just asking....."

Verizon is not giving any information on the update, not giving any confirmed date, not any theoretical date, They are however "giving not even a date at all" (You are actually getting what you and others are complaining about).โ€

SMH you still arenโ€™t getting my point at all. When I said weโ€™re not asking for a date at all, I mean an acknowledgment of the update does not mean they have to commit to any kind of date for releasing the update. NO I am not getting what I want, you obviously donโ€™t have a fucking clue what I want, so how can you make any such claims?

โ€œThe "some kind of update" is not even viable. If they are not giving you the updates you are even now still complaining about.โ€

What the fuck is this even supposed to mean? I just would like SOME KIND OF UPDATE. ANYTHING, even a simple โ€œweโ€™re looking into itโ€. THAT IS ALL.

The people complaining we havenโ€™t received the update have every right to complain. I know what Iโ€™ve been complaining about and continue to complain about. I understand pointing out how Verizon isnโ€™t obligated to release the update makes sense to those who are trying to use the FCC to push Verizon. However it adds NOTHING to the conversation with the rest of us who already know they arenโ€™t obligated to do a thing.

โ€œYes I can understand the stance you are all taking. However my not agreeing that this is the proper course of action and in many cases proving my statements where and when asked falls on angry blind eyes.โ€

No, you donโ€™t understand the stance Iโ€™m taking. I think they are doing a piss poor job not communicating anything to the consumers who are directly asking them and you keep repeating they arenโ€™t obligated to release the update. I know they arenโ€™t obligated to release the update, but after being silent for so long, it would be nice for them to say something, especially when directly asked about it. Iโ€™m saying one thing, youโ€™re addressing something entirely different. That is what you donโ€™t fucking understand.

If you know nothing is coming of the complaining where is that being productive? I can complain about the price of gas, yet that isn't going to make it cheaper. Like most people that start campaigns of complaints, eventually the credibility of the complaint is just labeled as "ignore" or worse. But hey keep on complaining.

You guys make my posts more credible with each attack on me and others that don't share your views.

I was going to go on about your lack of comprehension and how this is a discussion forum where we are trying to discuss Verizon's piss poor handling of the update roll out but it's pointless. Much like sethen has said, I'm done replying or trying to reason with you. I also hope you're getting paid for your ignorant posting, if not you're one pathetic person.

Have fun missing the point of yet another post, I won't be wasting anymore time conversing with you.

I keep asking myself why a person who is not invested in the platform would put so much energy into trying to prove everyone wrong aboout this and I can only come up with one answer.  You are either mentally disabled, senile, or really pushy.

I have been lurking and watching these threads over the past few days out of curiosity.  I have posted very little.  I have also noticed that you seem to be doing this in pretty much EVERY thread on this subject and you've achieved nothing positive from it (and never will).  Let it go.  You will not change anyones mind.  In fact, you are only reassuring us that you are a jerk.  You have said several times that you use an iPhone yet you have unlimited time to follow all of the Cyan threads and argue with every single person.  Please tell me you get paid to do this, otherwise that's just sad.

Even for those of us who don't really post you're being obnoxious.  I get probably 40 or 50 updates in my email per day.  Most of them are directly related to your pointless and repetitive banter.  You're not contributing anything of value in many different forums.  Granted, there are a lot of people who complain, etc...but at least they don't do it every 10 minutes all...day...long.  Stop spamming us with idiocy and just go away or keep it to yourself.  We all know how you feel, we just don't care.

Nobody came here to debate you, including myself.  While you're sitting there and penning your next masterpiece in response to me please keep this in mind.  I'm not going to respond to you because I don't want to act like an idiot in the same way you have been and clog up the forum even worse.  If you want anyone to give you even an ounce of credibility just do yourself a favor and stop acting like an idiot.

Thank you Sethen.  I and I would guess most others in this discussion couldn't agree with you more.  Don't you love how the next "masterpiece" in responses sure enough did come promptly?  To add to your comments, I would also say a very special kind of TROLL comes to mind.  Not the typical troll that posts ridiculous unfounded comments to get everyone in a tizzy, but the type of troll who appears to be a well educated, superiority complex individual.  Troll with a doctorate in "forum trolling".

I am and you can go back years and read that I don't care about post scores or community leader status, or poster of the month etc. I have even been banned at one time.

My posts at times are heated, I am not here to make friends but to actually try and help.

I am also one of the few that use reasoning in my replies. I am not perfect. Sigh...

Dude. Show me where for the past 6 years the supreme Court or even small claims court made any carrier liable for updates not coming. Find something from the millions on millions of FCC complaints the past 6 years. The Motorola Cliq T-Mobile said they will get an update. Based on what Motorola said. The course ruled T-Mobile wasn't liable because they didn't touch code for one. Two they said what the manufacturer said, and the manufacturer failed to deliver. Motorola was open enough to explain the delay. A driver wasn't being given by sharp for the display.

The problem... People think the updates are always finished based on other devices. It has already been established multiple times that each device although similar have their own development teams. No team will ever finish at the same time.

This is why I say try a new approach that has worked in Europe where we have failed here.

Iโ€™m not missing your meaning, I just donโ€™t agree with it.

Itโ€™s true that silence is golden, but when we have people from tweeting from other carriers regarding the updates, silence goes out the window. It only makes them look back when other carriers will acknowledge the update exists. When there is info out there for people to see, silence is not the way to go. You will only piss off your customer base by doing that.

There are phones out there now with the Denim update officially out, there is absolutely no excuse for them to take this long on releasing the Cyan.

But I understand you don't have to agree.

However, if you have read just a few new posts where Windows Phone Users are saying "Come on Verizon, every other carrier has pushed it out" ( No one has other than AT&T so that is absolutely false information from those posters)

Now you have people posting I spoke to King Kong a Verizon Executive and he/she tells me it is this department or that department holding up the update.

You also have others saying Ms./Mr. Big Verizon Executive stated to me that yes we have the update but have no idea when it will be released.

You also have the same in reverse.

One poster is claiming Verizon told him/her that no they no longer have it since it failed and was sent back to the device maker etc.

This and other posts are simply not accurate, and if just one of them is; think which one it would be?

There is no official word. Period. Speculation and anger over what is and is not said. Why work yourself up over it?

I would not believe any of these I spoke posts until like I normally see the announcement on Google + yeah they post it there and on Twitter first. Go figure?

I really donโ€™t understand what your post has to do with what I said.

Both AT&T and T-Mobile has acknowledged the 8.1/Cyan update exists. T-Mobile even officially confirmed they wonโ€™t be pushing it out to the Lumia 810.

So yes, there has been some official word from the other carriers and you donโ€™t see the world crashing down on them.

All weโ€™re asking for is some acknowledgment. I know you think silence is golden, and sometimes thatโ€™s the case. However when it damages the relationship with your customers, there is nothing golden about that.

As for the 810. Nokia said it first and T-Mobile said what Nokia said.

I was a former 810 owner. On T-Mobile forums there's a thread that has a whole bunch of links from Nokia saying that Nokia dropped support. Let me see if I can find it on their boards.

Thanks for the heads up. Thereโ€™s no need to look for any links. Even with Nokia first announcing they are dropping support for the 810, T-Mobile still acknowledged the update, thatโ€™s more than Verizon has done.

On a side note, itโ€™s odd that Nokia would drop support for the 810 while still supporting every other Lumia model.

From what Nokia said. It uses a different hardware which wasn't compatible with any firmware or something along those lines.

However being a developer I find that hard to believe they couldn't update said device. What I believe is the device sold so poorly Nokia deemed it not cost effective to put a development team to update the phone.

Thatโ€™s odd, I thought it had the same S4 processor as most of their other Windows Phones released back then.

I agree with you though. It probably sold so badly, itโ€™s not worth the time to optimize the firmware.

Wasn't processor, or anything like that related.  I can search T-Mobile forums to find the threads on it.  A lot of them are longer than all the ones here.  Most of them are 1 post wonders which probably 80% of them are the same person(s).  I ended giving my mom the 810 as a throwaway backup phone if she ever broke her phone.

I'd like manufacturers to be more transparent.  HTC and Motorola have already shown it can be done, and can even detail their process.  So far these two companies are doing what other people complaining about other manufacturers and carriers aren't doing...  It doesn't make sense to me.  Motorola updated the Moto X first on Verizon, and HTC updated their flagships all close relation to worldwide release.  They both say their next major updates will be within 90 days of when Google releases their next OS.  If Verizon had so much power and control how can these two companies update their devices and make statements that would blow up in their face if they don't deliver?

Anyway I wish Windows Phone does well, and I do hope some other OS's come to mobile space like Ubuntu Touch.  I am a tech junky Smiley Happy

Microsoft will not release the Windows 8.1 update until Cyan is available to us.  That is a firmware upgrade that some say we need others say we may not need.  I too have an 822 and would guess we will need it since the Icon and 9xx series came out AFTER testing had started on 8.1 and the 822 before testing was being done on Windows 8.1.

As someone stated in another thread, Verizon's silence does tend to fuel animosity, warranted or not.  As a business, they should be very quick to respond in order to quell any fears or misgivings of their customers.

Thank you bsites1968.  I'm sure you will get some on here arguing with that very simple point as well.  Something like "Verizon has no obligation to be very quick to respond, and may or may not have their own reasons to keep quiet, which is within their rights as the business".

Silence, at least in this type of situation, is not always "golden".  A simple statement, even once every couple of weeks to the effect of "We have heard your voice.  We are still working on the Cyan update.  We want to make sure it is flawless for our dedicated users.  We hope to have it released this quarter."  Or this month...or whatever...would be better than silence.  Sincere communication is all it takes to quell some people, even if it is a platitude such as above.
