Malware: Up 3325% on DROID, 0.7% on Windows Mobile, 0% on Windows Phone

Makes one wonder how much $$$ this costs DROID Verizon Support?  Bad enough Support has to juggle multiple (ahem, segmented) operating systems on these devices.    "We're going to have to wipe this phone clean and start all over again!"

Once again, another vote for the WP investment.  Or maybe Verizon is making so much money off of these DROIDS that the revenue covers the support headaches?

a) are the wp devices not segmented? they all have mango right?

b) your second statement is probably correct. the revenue from droids must cover enough to continue selling them. they offer what sells. if it sells, it stays on the shelf. if not, it's gone. i just read a thread where people were complaining about the trophy no longer being in stores and wondering about the future of support for it. sounds a lot like many of the android models.

as far as malware goes, i liken the above stats to the pc vs mac debate from ages ago. yes, pc's were more vulnerable and were attacked much more significantly. why? because MUCH more of the globe used pc's vs. macs. hackers attack in mass. they don't want to create a virus that's going to affect such a small amount of users that it won't even make online headlines. their goal is to crush a LARGE mass....and make big headlines. if WP takes off and a significant share of the market begins using them, you will see attacks on it as well.

AZ - WP devices do have Mango.  Point is, they all have Mango (with the exceptions of the Windows Mobile Devices - not Windows Phones).  This should make support a lot easier for Verizon and Microsoft doesn't seem to finicky when it comes to updating their WP operating system.  I think that Android has only 1% on Ice Cream and they are already discussing another OS while most of thier cusotmers sit on the version prior to Ice Cream Sandwich.  Plus, there appears to be Nexus versions and Moto versions of the same stuff.  The open architecture idea is alright, it just makes support and version control a very difficlut.  Also very difficlut for folks who develop apps to create apps that support all operating systems and all versions.

Have you coded for Android? It's not all that hard for legacy support as people claim it to be.  It's developers making the decision not to support the lower OS's as people are moving forward and it's a lot easier with some apps with the API implementation, and using that line as an excuse.

The point of Android is CHOICE.  If you look at all WP7 devices they are ALL the same with the exception of look.  With hardware restrictions you will always have the same device just a different look.  Not far behind an iPhone in that regard. Sure it makes the placebo effect that all are supported, but more than likely MS and Apple do most if not all of the work.  With Android it's up to the Manufacturer.  Carriers honestly have little control like popular belief when it comes to the code.  People like to blame them 99% of the because they are the closest and easiest entity to complain to.

Honestly saying most of this stuff you are posting is subjective and biased.  If you honestly want to get Verizon to listen you have to show something that isn't biased.  Right now WP7 market share is small and SLOWY growing while Android and iOS grow more than WP7 has.  Before you say I don't know what I am talking about...

I own a Nexus One, Nokia 710, iPhone 4S as my development devices.  My work place has 2 WPs, and the rest is iOS, and Android.  Only techies care about what version OS they have.  Most care nothing about updates as long as their phone works for them.

Increasing the chances of bricking your phone to 3325% is a good choice?  Those are ugly stats without the bias or suggestion.  Period.

Not here to take away iPhone or DROID customers from Verizon.  My points are specifically for Verizon as a company and illustrate that there are better device options that carry lower risk and more profit.  Business 101.  Quality phones that work, support their LTE standard, have a common OS and an easy OS to use.  This simply makes for a better business decision.  No bias.  Not being suggestive.

It would be interesting to dig through Verizon's 10K regarding the following...  How much money is made off of the sale of each iPhone?  How much money is spent supporting the groups of teenagers and adult iPhone nubies who own a new iPhone 4S?  How much money is spent on hiring and training (or adding to the compensation of) Verizon staff to support multiple DROID platforms?  How many Verizon customers who are happy with their phone experience return to Verizon to renew their contract?  What are their retention numbers and why?

Again, just trying to get Verizon to realize that WP carries positive benefits to all of the areas above.  Reduce risk, reduce baggage, increase profit.  Not trying to get anyone to dump, drop, leave or switch.

Again you are spreading FUD, and also being biased.

Sorry Charlie.  It may be my bias, but not my FUD.  Check my history.  Industry facts and article links to every post topic.  As an added bonus...  those articles are based on industry feedback and research.  Feedback from people who own the same devices you own and research on the devices and carriers themselves.

Um, yea, just like this post.  Self-doubt is not my intention.

Malware.  What an ugly word.  Not my word, but it sure seems to have someone's attention.  Thanks for proving my point; hopefully your carrier is listening too.  Keep those "I'm gonna get the last word in" posts coming.  You are doing a beautiful job at keeping this great news about Windows Phone at the top of the forum list!

As I said it's FUD, and we been through this before.  Hackers would attack the higher number of people as possible.  Since Android and Apple are on top well you see the results.  It is no different than when Windows was the top dog, and Apple made a commercial about it spreading the FUD to get people to switch to Mac and people believe it is safer than Windows.

It is very much YOUR FUD as it is those "marketers" FUD.

My carrier IS not Verizon... If you check my history you will see I honestly DO NOT have a bias towards Verizon.  I actually recommend other carriers on this board.  I am however biased against Sprint and stated that fact more than a few times even in your own thread.  I even told you and other people. I say talk with your money and IF you are not getting what you want move on as it will do more than to cry and complain about what you can't have.  Money talks and <fill in the blank> walks.

This is like making an argument against golden retrievers because they have higher reported cases of biting than some other breeds...

It's all about popularity...

And popularity will always determine what vzw focuses sales on and where hackers put their efforts.
