Multiple Text Messages

I am having an issue where I am receiving upwards of 3 duplicate text messages from people. I even reset my phone to factory settings and it is still doing it. Is this an issue with my phone, Verizon Wireless, multiple friends' phones, or their service providers? I guess my question is if this could be an issue with my phone what are some steps to correct this on my end?

Your efforts are greatly appreciated, let's see what's causing the problem! When did the issue begin? Current zip code? Are you using a 3rd party messaging application? Do you receive duplicate messages from all recipients? I look forward to hearing from you soon.
