I had misplaced it; it was on when I lost it, and then the battery died the next day. It lay dormant for about 2 weeks before I found it in the bottom of my laundry bin. I borrowed chargers from several firiends, no luck. Please help. Is it my battery? Or is it my phone? If my phone is really dead, I need to figure out how to get my photos off the memory .

I took my phone to a Verizon store. The representative showed me that the battery had indeed incurred moisture damage while it was sitting in my laundry bin. The little pattern was washed out of the the white thingie on the battery. (Do you know what I am talking about?) However, the pattern was still intact on the phone, so it was only the battery that shorted out. I got another battery, and the phone works fine now!

If the phone is dead I don't think you can even hook it to the computer to see the files on it. That is why you should back up anything important before something like this happens. Have you gone into a Verizon store to see if they can do anything? Mary

I'm sorry to hear about your phone, leopardstail. Let's see what we can do to retrieve your pictures. It's possible that there is an issue with the battery. How long did you let the device charge once you found it? Did the phone incur any physical or moisture damage while it was missing?

You can get a new OEM battery for cheap: Amazon.com: Samsung Standard Battery for Samsung SCH-U640: Cell Phones & Accessories
I would try that route first; your old battery may revive if left on a charger long enough, but you can also get a new one that may fix things.
