My twice reinstalled Windows Phone app doesn't allow me to name my phone.
That's where the app crashes.

Is your login account an administrator? Have you tried installing the Windows Phone app by right-clicking on the installer and selecting Run As Administrator?

Do you have a memory card in it? If you do, try removing it (don't put it back in, i have left mine out), unplug the battery for about 30 mins and try again. I think this in the end is all I had to do. Of course I did a hard and soft reset too before this so I don't know what fixed it. I had the same problem with the app before and now it is working. All your driver information looks like mine as well.

Had the same problem last night and had been looking for answers. Seems like your solution for removing the SD card works. I removed the battery, removed the sd, and restarted. I then let the computer and phone do an initial sync and voila, it appeared in explorer! Once the initial sync had completed I restarted the phone with the sd card and plugged it into the computer again and it works as it should now! I did not perform a hard reset. Hopefully this works for other people. Thanks for the ideas!

Thanks for the memory card idea. As soon as I have the chance I will try
removing my memory card, etc.

Hi,
Thanks for the idea about the SD card. It worked. I have read that the phone will only store videos, mp3s and pictures on the SD as a security feature. I wonder if that is part of the issue. I have many books in .txt format (many were .lit format which is an unsupported MS-Reader format) on the SD, so I wonder if a formatted SD had the same issue. I'm disappointed that MS didn't have a solution for those of us using outlook without exchange (even droid has that by now with 3rd party), but I'm very happy with the phone and like MS security model more than apple or droid.

Mine works with the memory card I just put in last night...... Brand new card - I wonder if it is persnickety about what class the card is. Mine is a SanDisk 64GB Class 10 Micro SD. I was fortunate that I saw a thread over on wpcentral where someone said that it should be a class 10. That causes the price to jump up quite a bit. I was looking at cards in the $20-30 range for black Friday, but when I saw that, the price started looking closer to $100, but I found one on Amazon for $41.99. It's now $58.40, but that's still a far cry from the $99.99 list price...

So I finally had a chance to remove my memory card, and bingo, I could then
access the files and folders on my 822. I transferred a few custom
ringtones and it worked fine. Unfortunately, when I put the card back in
(a class 4 8GB), no more access. I'll try a class 10 card next. It would
be nice if Microsoft/Nokia would clarify this.

I had the same problem with my 8GB SD card, but I fixed it by backing up everything on the card, formatting it on my PC, and then formatting it on my phone, then it showed up properly.
