I would prefer not to start a firestorm with Verizon.  They know about the FCC complaint site and VZW has seen a number of cases and a number of fines as a result of Verizon customers who used the FCC site and had documentation to back up their case.

If you want your Nokia or Microsoft updates fast, contact the FCC the day they are released and you don't see an update notification on your phone.  Why is it that Apple can push their OS updates directly to their customers but Microsoft can't?  Why is it that Verizon insists that they must test the updates before releasing them?  Answer: It's really not our problem.  We pay big bucks for our phones and these updates fix defects and add or enhance features.  We have access rights to such software updates the day of release.  The rest of the chatter and excuses are Verizon's problem.

If your conflict with Verizon is more extreme, the FCC complaint site gets results without a lawyer, without the BBB and without contacting your State Attorney's Office.  Unlike the NSA, the FCC is something reasonably good to come from the government for your phone!  Smiley Happy

If you are promised a refund or a credit by Verizon, get it in an email from the customer service rep before you hang up the phone.  You will need that email when the credit doesn't appear on your bill or when the check never comes for you in the mail.  Attach it to your FCC complaint form and wait for action.  It's free.  It works.

www.fcc.gov/complaints  As you can see from the complaint form on the FCC Site - there are many situations that the FCC can help you with.  Billing and updates are just a few.  If you live or work in an area where there is little to no connectivity, the FCC can help.  If you are struggling with a locked or unlocked phone, the FCC can help.  If your phone is constantly dropping calls and you can't get a repair or replacement, the FCC can help.  If you see or read about someone getting a raw deal with their phone, bill or service - pay it forward and let them know about this site.

The reason Apple can push their updates because of their tight control and stipulations Google and Microsoft both choose not to. Half the problems with getting updates for Android and Microsoft devices could be achieved if both companies grew a pair and follow Apple's lead in a way Microsoft has by telling the phone manufacturers starting with with Windows Phone 7 that they cannot put their UI layers on and it and the first two rows of tiles must be Microsoft tiles, apps that are not essential must be able to be uninstalled and so on. Google could do the sane and both companies could do the same with updates but they choose not to hence my "grow a pair" statement.

(Discussion of moderation removed) Tried to send question to MODERATOR.  "Why was my post deleted?"  Unable to send messages to MODERATOR because MODERATOR is not on my connection list.  Would love to add MODERATOR to my contact list so that I can message to see what the problem is.  No MODERATOR on the list to connect to.  Not very community-centric.

Is anything with Verizon ever easy?  SMH.

I in no way meant to imply that Verizon would either receive an update that is 100% ready, nor put out an update without testing it first.  What I am saying is that Verizon and AT&T received the same GDR3 and Nokia Black firmware updates at the same time from Nokia and Microsoft.  So, why did it only take AT&T a few weeks to test and get updates out to 4 (FOUR) different devices on their network, while Verizon hasn't been able to provide the update for the only 2 (TWO) devices they have on their network?  That, to me, equates to AT&T having TWICE the testing capabilities of Verizon, something to think about when deciding which company to rely on for constomer satisfaction and "actual" customer service.

Again, however, I will state that I am NOT fixacted as much on the time line to get the update out, but rather on Verizon's CONSISTENT LACK OF CUSTOMER CARE!  If there is a legitimate reason for the delay in the updates, TELL US WHAT IT IS!  At the very least, we, as PAYING customers, deserve that much respect from Verizon!

Maybe AT&T didn't test the updates thoroughly and released as it

I'm not defending VZW, they have always been slowpokes with updates it just their nature.  Either file a complaint with the FCC or just deal with the delay....

I do agree with communicating to their customers of an update roll out schedule and I have complain numerous times to executives and it falls on deft ears.

How hard is it to post a schedule on a quarterly time frame, Nokia Lumia Black - 1Q14?  If its delayed for whatever reason just post an update with the blanket statement; unforeseen circumstances has arisen and we're pushing the update till 2Q14 (that gives them a 3 month window to iron out the issues) ....  Of course people will be upset but at least its an response instead of dead silence.

I filed my complaint with the FCC we shall see what comes of it. If VZW doesn't like it and threatens to cancel my ck tract let them AT&T has better coverage in my area anyway.

You won't get your account cancelled.  You will get a follow-up call from a very naïve customer service representative who really doesn't understand what the problem is or why we went to the FCC.  They, essentially, read from script and start to go into their...  "We have to test the upgrade" song and dance.  I ask why Apple doesn't - they have no response.  I ask why there is such a long wait period - there is no response.  The best we can do is use the FCC to put the full court press on Verizon for getting updates for our phones.  As many have already stated; the money we spend with Verizon on our hardware and the customer service that we expect after paying excessive fees should not be taken lightly.

As I stated in one of my earlier posts Apple tells the carriers that when we release an update it is to go directly through us to the customer and no middle man intervention etc. Another thing is that Apple forces you to be on a WiFi network to get the update. They do not go through the carrier period. Hence my "grow a pair" response google could do the same Thi g by telling the phone makers that you can't put Touchwiz,HTC Sense, etc on their phones and tell the carriers don't get between us and our software updates. Microsoft has done the no UI tweak but they and the phone manufacturers don't have the guts to do so. There are plenty of free WiFi hotspots around that making the updates WiFi only and have it cone directly from the phone makers and the creators of the OS would cause a huge Burdon on most customers.

Thank you MadDog and everyone else, I finally came to the right spot! I filed my compliant with the FCC, (1) for the restriction of the Black update, (2) for the 2+ weeks it took for them to process my order to get me my 928's, the over 20 hours I had to spend on the phone with them to get the phones, and the "bait and switch" they preform on their online ordering system because the nationwide plan from my old basic plan is not reflected on the overall monthly payment...!

The only reason for staying is that the offer they gave me was better then the competitors and maxed out my budget. I have been a loyal customer of Verizon's for 15 years, support has never been great but this most recent event was RIDICULOUS!!!

2+ Weeks, 20+ Hours on the phone with "Customer Care" = One very angry customer

Without knowing the circumstances of your order I could not pass judgment on the situation. I ordered my Lumia 928 on Amazon but I think had have gone that route Verizon still would have made you change your plan but I doubt you would have waited the two weeks. If you order a phone through them or another third party such as wirefly, tigerdirect, etc they still check with your carrier for thugs like your upgrade eligibility, current plan, etc and a lot of tines you get lower prices than from Verizon problem is that you often have 181 day contract which requires you to keep your current plan for that time, have to call them to change plans, you don't like your handset, etc. With the payment plans like Verizon Edge though the third party deals aren't really worth it.
