Nokia Lumia 822 randomly shuts down completely and will not power on again without taking battery out. I've had it a week and this has happened everyday. WTF?

Try the steps outlined by hopmedic, https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/917574#917574
If that doesn't work get a replacement phone.

Your phone will continue to do this until the patch comes out this month that is suppose to fix it. I have went through 3 of these phones now and still have the same problem. The only thing they will tell me is that Nokia and Windows is aware of the problem and working on it. Best bet, is every morning pull your battery and put it back in and never leave your phone unattended for more than an hour.

Anyone know if this patch has pushed out yet? I got an update just a few days ago, but not sure if this is the one with the "fix". It seemed more like a minor update to the OS, though the numbers below indicate this was the December update.
For reference, I'm on:
OS Version: 8.0.10211.204
Firmware Revision: 1532.5951.1250.1012
Radio Software: 2.0.092021.3
Chis SOC: 8960

I just got my first replacement Lumia 822 phone for the EXACT same problem you are having. The Verizon tech told me on May 1st that Verizon had no such problem ever recorded in their computer file for the Lumia 822. My problem was exactly the same as yours -- every single day, including within 3 hours of purchasing the phone. Other than checking the phone frequently when I'm expecting a call, and popping out the battery when it shuts down, I've had no other solutions.

I have just purchased a Nokia 822, and experienced the same problem, powere off and will not restart unless you remove and place back the battery. When replacing battery, power is over 60%. I have noted it only does this when wi-fi is turned on. with wi-fi turned off the phone does not power off where you can not start it.

I have this same exact problem.
My phone says it is up to date as of 2 seconds ago so theoretically it has the patch that was supposed to fix this problem, yet it persists.
Any other solutions?

Let's get to the bottom of this funkymunky1. Are you experiencing this more than once a day? I know your device is advising it's up to date. I want to ensure the appropriate software version is installed. Please confirm if you are running version 1532.5951.1250.1012. The most optimal time to charge your phone is when the battery level drops below 20%. This may help with this issue as well as extending the life of the battery. Please test and share. Thank you.

Kathy,
Yes that is the firmware version I am running. This happens on average once every three days.
I will try the battery charging suggestion.
Thanks
Paul

Kathy I have that #as my software so I am up to date. I have found if I don't turn the WiFi off at night in the morning my phone has shut down ...requires battery removal. This is 100% of the time since update my phone to this software #. I have wireless internet at home and do not want to use my data package of my phone. It happens more with the WiFi on, but also shuts down with it off.

Thanks for sharing your discovery. We are committed to getting this taken care of. mzed, may I ask what is the software version do you have on your device? Also, can I assume that there isn't any physical or liquid damage on the phone? Such an issue requires more details so we may advise the manufacturer. As you share the details then it will greatly help us in customizing a solution. I'm looking forward to your reply.

os version: 8.0.10211.204
firmware: 1532.5951.1250.1012
No liquid or other damage.
Shutdown started within 24 hours of purchasing the phone on Dec 23, 2012. Latest phone update was done in June and 100% of the time the phone shutsdown if I don't turn the wifi off on the phone before going to bed since the update. And it still shuts down randomly during the day with the wifi on or off.
It is not a user issue it is the phone.

Hi mzed,
Thanks for the software information! All looks good with software version. Some customers report having these issues resolved by doing a hard reset http://vz.to/UlCoE3 please follow the steps outlined at the link, and keep us posted.

My phone display turns off, but the phone itself is working., I hear the voice of incoming call which means the phone itself is on, but the display is not. I had to take battery off to restart it. Any idea what the issue might be?
Thanks.

Hi there hatiger!
Being able to see your screen on a touch screen device is pretty important! I'm sorry to learn that your screen isn't playing nice. I want to make sure it's not a defective screen, so I have a few questions!
When you reset the battery, has it happened again?
Does the phone have any liquid or physical damage?
How long have you had the phone or do you have insurance?
I look forward to your responses!
