Samsung Convoy3: how can I press the '1' key to put a period at the end of a sentence without XT9 Word changing the last word of the sentence to something completely different?

When texting in XT9 Word, I press the '1' key to insert a period at the end of a sentence just as the manual online states.  Each time I do this, the word I typed changes to a completely different word. In order to reconcile this, I must clear the word, retype my word, press the 'space' key, press CLR, press the '1' (period) and ONLY THEN can I press the 'space' key to continue with the next sentence.  What's the deal Verizon support helpers?

Hi Yoyogo2,

Never fear help is here! Try entering the period as an symbol instead of using the "1" key.

Entering Symbols
Use Symbols mode to enter common symbols into a
text field.
To switch to Symbols mode, press the
Left Soft Key , then press Symbols.
To enter symbols:
• Use the Directional Key to highlight a symbol, then press
the Center Select Key to insert it.
• There are three pages of symbols. Press the Left Soft Key
(Prev) to move to the previous page, or the Right Soft Key
(Next) to move to the next page of symbols.
Tip: You can also press the key for the number corresponding
to a symbol.

Thanks,
