Samsung WP7

So obviously there have been plenty of substantial rumors for the HTC Trophy coming to Verizon and another recent rumor that the HTC 7 Pro/Arrive might be launching as well. But what about Samsung?

We have yet to hear even a whisper about a Samsung Windows Phone on Verizon, which seems very unusual considering their past strategies with mobile devices (which carrier doesn't have a Galaxy S iteration). I half expected to see something about the Omnia 7 (my personal favorite) given Verizon's history with the Omnia line. I find it very unlikely that they would give up on Verizon customers interested in WP7, but unfortunately I haven't heard anything to say otherwise. Has anybody else noticed this, or heard anything?

On one hand you are right - there is a history of VZW with Omnia and more generally Samsung, but on the other hand, given their hostile attitude toward Windows Phone 7, I personally would be shocked if they launch with more than the two HTC models rumored to be coming.  It would certainly be nice for the customers to have more choice, but I'm not going to hold my breath for anything that involves both Verizon and Microsoft.

I was at a VZ company store earlier and was told by a salesman that he had just finished online training for WP7, and the device in the training material looked like a Samsung to him. He then pulled it back up and showed it to me. It looked like an Omnia 7, with the square corners to me. I don't know if that has anything to do with what device they will release first, but perhaps there's hope for you.

I also asked him how long before releases they usually do their training, and he said about 2 weeks. So, maybe we will start seeing some WP7 devices in May.

I have plenty of places that I can look to see if the phone is actually available.  I don't need more useless email from Verizon. What I need is useful information.  I am sure that I am not going to get any meaningful information from this spam.  It will be the same "coming soon" type language likely.  Make an argument that this spam will actually tell me something more than I get in other places and I may sign up.

I wouldn't expect anything but the Trophy.  It would not surprise me if the training was supplied by Microsoft initially.  They have a generic test phone that they use in a lot of materials.  The Windows Phone commercials by Microsoft use the same phone.  I don't think this is really an indication of anything.  I too would like to see more models offered by Verizon.  I wouldn't count on it any time soon.  It would take shelf space away from their masses of Android models.

Agreed. I love Android and there's WAY too many current android phones. They don't differentiate themselves, just throw a ton of half-baked phones on the shelves instead of releasing a few great phones. Like who the heck wants a Motorola Citrus? Thing's a piece of junk!

There should be, for every OS:
two entry level options (with/without qwerty)
two "basic" high end options (with/without qwerty)
one "bleeding edge" option (usually this will be a touch-only phone)
I can understand having global versions of some of the above, and maybe a couple niche devices such as the Xperia Play, or anything else that truly differentiates itself. What we DON'T need is 3 different high-end touch-slab phones and 3 different entry-level touch-slab phones.

That's how Android and WinPhone7 should both do things. Sadly, handset makers seem content to saturate the HECK out of the Android market with junk/duplicate phones. They also don't seem interested in offering anything unique on WinPhone7.
