I've encountered many issues with SMS and MMS on my HTC 8X. I've been to Verizon Store, Microsoft Store, called HTC, and called Verizon several times for help but issue is still not fixed. Each time I contacted support, they said that these were not known issues however I see other users reporting same issues in person and on these forums. Usually after the support does more investigating online, they realize it is a known issue.
1) Group text was a recently added new feature for HTC 8X but it still does not work consistently for me even though I enabled it in settings. I rarely receive group messages and if I ever do, I only receive one or two messages from the entire thread. I do not receive any error messages.
2) I do not receive picture messages at all. No error messages are shown. This has been occuring for several months and I never realize when I miss a picture message from a contact. I have to remind my contacts to e-mail me pictures instead of sending me via MMS. I talked to an associate in the Verizon Store and we tried to send test pictures from display phones. My phone did not receive the pictures.
3) I encounter the "Can't send text" error message that many other HTC 8X users reported after GDR2 update. When this "can't send" issue occurs, I have to toggle airplane mode several times or restart phone in order to send messages again. This happens at least once a day.
Will there be any fix soon for messaging? I've been waiting for month for these bugs to be fixed.

Hi bnh11,
Wow! The issue listed do indeed sound shocking! Your device is expected to work 24/7. Do you mind sharing a bit of information? Has this device ever been replaced? When you contacted HTC, what did they advise? Please share details, thanks!

No, the device has not been replaced. When I contacted HTC, they investigated for several minutes and said that it is a known issue. They said that it's a known issue but they do not know what causes it. They asked me to inform them of any workarounds or fixes that I discover myself.
I received the GDR3 update a couple days ago. My issues #1 and 2 now seem to be fixed. I am now consistently receiving picture messages and group messages from my contacts. But issue #3 is still happening. Sometimes I have to attempt multiple times to send a message even when I have full service.
GDR3 also introduced a new call volume bug to my phone: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1023844

The new Verizon Windows Phone - Nokia Icon is released next week. All HTC 8X users should be given a free upgrade to this phone. I've gone through the HTC 8X issues for over half a year and there's been no urgency from Microsoft, HTC, or Verizon to fix the phone. Everyday the phone encounters random reboots, failed messages, network issues, and no sim card errors. When is Verizon going to compensate us for these issues?

I would like to add credibility and urgency to this post by adding that I am having the EXACT same problems and have been given the same run-around from Verizon for months now. They told me that the issues would be fixed when the phone update came out, however, from the above poster and my own experience, the update came out and the issues are still not resolved.
Please keep us updated on this.

In sum, when the phone goes into an area of no cell service (e.g. subway or tunnel) and then comes back into an area of cell service, it is impossible to send a text message without doing one of the following:
- cycling airplane mode.
- power cycling the phone.
Strangely enough, when the phone comes out of the subway into full cell service, you can RECEIVE texts messages, MAKE and RECEIVE calls with no problems. It is strictly limited to the sending of text message where the phone struggles. Specifically, you will get an error message "Can't send; try again" to which you can press infinitely, it will not work without cycling airplane mode or restarting the phone.

Hi kinglin,
Thanks for the info. Sounds like your device needs a refresh! What phone are you using? Is this the only time it's happening when you are leaving a no service area back to a full service area? Is it happening at random in full service areas? Keep me posted.
Thanks, BobbyS_VZW

HI,
The phone I am using is the HTC 8x. IT only happens at described above, when leaving full service and coming back into full service.

Hey there kinglin,
Thanks for the additional information. Signal strength can be tricky in elevators due to it being in the interior of the building. I rarely get service in elevators and when I do I am impressed. It can also be tricky in underground subway stations since they are indeed underground.
The service works well outside of the elevators and subway stations correct?

No our complaint is after leaving full service and coming back into full service, text messages can not be sent. To workaround the issue, you must restart the phone or toggle airplane mode.
For instance, I visit a basement of building and lose service. Later once I'm outside with full service, text messages can not be sent. Calls can be made and I receive text messages. However, I repeatedly get error messages whenever sending.

I have the same problem. My wife and I both have HTC 8X and have issues sending text messages like above. The only way to correct it is to restart the phone or sometimes switching airplane mode on and off works.

Lots of us with the 8X HTC are having this issue too. One would think they'd getting a fix out to us as it's been months of this for most of us.

Hi Major_Payne! Ongoing issues are always a source of irritation! HTC did recently release a new software version for the HTC Windows 8X. http://vz.to/1howv2H This was made available on 11/21. Have you attempted the update yet? The link includes a description, as well as instructions. Please try the new software, and report back to advise if it corrects your issue.
Thanks,

@MichelleH_VZW
Yes I am running GDR3
version 8.0.10501.127
Just ran the check for updates again (run it every other day in the hope that an actual fix is released)
Problem has persisted since GDR2. Prior to that the phone worked perfectly, no issues.

Thank you for your reply, Major_Payne! To confirm you are only experiencing the concerns with not being able to send a message intermittently? I do see that we have an active investigation with HTC to address this. At this time I do not have an estimated time of resolution.
Thank you,

Well I got the replacement sim card tray from HTC, installed it and guess what........
I'm still having the intermittent sending text messages issue.
So I'll say once again before GDR2 never ever ever ever ever had any issues sending text messages. Since GDR2 and GDR3 having the issue.
Can you say software issue????????????

Definitely a software/firmware issue. I don't see how this is hard to troubleshoot or even replicate.
The issue did not exist prior to GDR2 update. Look at the changelogs between GDR1 and GDR2/GDR3, see what is different. I don't see why it is that difficult to discover the root cause. Something obviously had to change.

I was told by a Verizon support rep last week that this is a known issue for HTC 8X phones but HTC is unable to isolate what the root cause is. HTC was to contact me to learn details of when and where the failure to launch texts occurred, but I have yet to hear from them.
I am writing this as I am unable to send texts - again!

I purchased an HTC 8x in March. In June I received the "no SIM card" error which began occurring more frequently. Incredibly annoying when traveling overseas and nothing I could do about it. Intermittent can't connect to network errors in various applications. The piece de resistance came last week when I could no longer send text messages (SMS or MMS). I suspected the Microsoft OS update but wasn't sure. Called Verizon tech support was on the phone with the Tier 2 tech for an hour. He did the following to determine the problem source: 1) remove & reprovision my text service (done at the tower side), 2) Pulled text service completely from my phone and reinstated it. He said that the tower could see my phone and I had 4 bar network signal strength and wi-fi which meant the phone wasn't transmitting the data. Finally, we did a master reset of the phone. Nada. He shipped out a new phone, which I received today.
The new/refurbished HTC 8x phone worked out of the box. I customized it, restored my contacts, etc. then installed Windows OS updates and - surprise! - could no longer send text messages. I really like the windows operating system as the phone was the easiest I've ever set up but when I went to the store this evening the rep said that Verizon hasn't announced any new phones to replace the HTC 8x or the Nokia Lumia 928 which makes me think it will drop all support for Windows phones. Next up, a call to Verizon support to replace the second text-bricked phone. While I wait for the second phone to ship, which will be delayed by the Christmas holiday, it would be nice if I could UN-intall the third update so at least I could use the phone. Looks like we're left holding the bag while everyone points fingers. Anyone know if the Lumia 928 has these issues?
