Trouble deleting text messages from Extravert 2

My daughter and I both recently got the LG Extravert 2 and have both had the same problem. I was the first to have the problem with not being able to delete messages, but I was able to solve it after turning my phone off and removing the battery for 30 secs. But I can't seem to get my daughters phone to do the same. I've made sure the messages aren't locked (I've even locked them and then unlocked them), I've checked all the settings, I've tried to delete all messages in the inbox, all messages from an individual, and deleting each message one at a time; none of which have actually worked. It always tells me that it has worked, but then it returns to the inbox and all the same messages are there. I don't get any kind of error message, or anything saying it can't complete the action. It's getting really frustrating because this phone doesn't seem to have that much of a memory for storing text messages, and once it's full, wont accept any new messages. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?

I had the same problem with my LG Extravert 2. I called Verizon and talked to a really good tech guy. LG is working on a software update to fix this known problem. Should be out soon. A week or two. Maybe tomorrow. You'll know when you get the update. It's supposed to be sent to our phones for us to choose to install. For the meantime, this worked for my phone, try erasing all of your messages. It probably won't appear to have worked. Now, power down your phone. Remove the battery for at least 30 seconds. Power it back up. Still having problems? Cause I was. Only different problems. The messages appeared gone, but it was saying memory low, inbox full, even though it now said no messages were available in my messaging. Crazy. Now, power down again. Remove the battery for at least 30 seconds. Power it back up and hopefully it works. It did for me. So far anyway. The tech said to also try, once removing the battery, to hold down the power button down for a few seconds to clear all the power all out. But, it worked without me doing that part. Keep trying the battery routine a few times if nothing is helping, I would think. Good luck.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye for the update.

I had the same problem as you with the low memory messages. I was ticked at first because the phone was only  about a week old at the time and I hadn't taken many pictures and no video and had *finally* gotten my texts to delete. I kind of thought to myself 'how on earth is it possible to have low memory already?!?!'  But then, like you did, I powered down and removed the battery again and it hasn't given me a problem since. My daughter's phone though seems to be much more stubborn! I'll give it another shot in the order you listed above and see if it helps. Otherwise, I guess we'll just wait it out and see if the update works.

My daughter is having the same problem with her new Extravert 2.  We are currently deleting one at a time just so she can receive messages.  Not sure what is the solution.

We've been doing the same. I got a bunch more to delete, but the older ones are still stuck. I went ahead and changed her settings so they don't auto save, that way at least no new ones get stuck. Hopefully anyway!

I understand your concerns regarding this text messaging issue Megs5384! Let's ensure that text messages are not "Locked", See page 77 of the Device Manual for steps for locking and unlocking messages: http://vz.to/1hAjp6D. Also you can change your Messaging Setting option to "Auto Erase Inbox" which will automatically delete read messages when you exceed the message inbox storage limit. See instructions for this step in the Device Manual on page 82: http://vz.to/1hAjp6D. Keep us posted.

You know, sometimes I wonder if you customer service people actually read the whole posts people put up. It clearly says in my original post that I already checked to see if the messages were locked. I even locked them and unlocked them again just to be sure. I also already changed her settings to auto erase.

It's not something I'm doing. It's not something ANY of us are doing. It's the phone. We (and by 'we', I mean all the people who seem to be having this same exact problem) can't possibly all be having this problem because we forgot to unlock messages. No. This problem of not being able to delete text messages is obviously far too common for it to be such a simple mistake. I'm not sure why Verizon keeps trying to blame the customer for what is very clearly a problem with one of their products. I understand that there are many people who may not know even the basics of cell phone operations, so you have to ask if we checked those things. But seriously? I'm not the first person to post on this subject, I'm not even the second, or third. There are many posts about it. And then there are many responses to those posts from different people stating the same problem. So WHY is that still the go to solution? Especially when I've already made it clear that I checked that.

Try again, Verizon Wireless Customer Service Rep. AntonioC.

Megs5384 We apologize about having you repeat the issue and what has been tried. Your knowledge about the text defect  is appreciated and we look forward to providing you with the best solution. The device manuafacturer,LG, is working on a fix which has not been released. there is not a timeframe for the fix. We apologize for the inconvenience and recommend trying a complete factory reset on the device since this has not been tried yet. http://vz.to/1lABrWo

Really?? Are you serious?? I have tried a factory reset on my Extravert 2 for this texting problem TWICE!!! TWICE!!! And it DID NOTHING to correct the problem because it is a software issue and needs to be addressed by LG and Verizon! And this was on the advice of one of your technical support staff members.  You guys and gals are obviously not on the same page with one another or you would not have suggested this fix to Megs5384! I guess this is another confirmation for me that you all are NOT PAYING attention to DETAILS!!!! Quit side stepping the issue and recommending BS fixes that don't solve the problem! Give us new phones of a different make and model if you or LG are not going to resolve this problem!

We tried the complete factory reset today.  Took the phone to the Verizon store for data transfer.  Took forever, and the messages were still there, and will still not delete!

The problem is not in what we customers are doing or not doing; it is in the phone and software.  This is what I was told from the Verizon tech support person I spoke with on the phone a week ago after waiting for 30 mins.  Supposedly, an update fix is being addressed by LG and Verizon but, I have yet to see it or hear from Verizon about this. I was told that getting a replacement phone in this model will not work because all the phones in the LG Extravert are defective and have this software problem with the inability to delete messages.  That's what these "thick-headed"  online morons from Verizon Customer Support FAIL to understand even after numerous messages have been posted on this problem!!! Yet, they continue to post mindless responses and fixes to this thread that have NOTHING to do with the problem!!

That's the exact problem my daughters phone is having, so I understand your frustration. One thing you can do if you decided to wait it out for the software update is go into your text settings, find the "Auto Erase inbox" and make sure that's on. It wont get rid of the ones already stuck, but it should keep any new messages from building up. I will try give you a glimmer of hope here... it's not all of these phones. My first one had the problem once, and I was able to fix it by removing the battery. That one did eventually completely freeze on me and I was able to get a replacement. This one hasn't had any problems what so ever, even after I drown it in the river. I'm going to try to wait it out for the new software, but I'm very disappointed in LG. I've always had LG phones and have loved every single one of them. The Extravert 2 is definitely not up to there usual standards.

My daughter seems to be able to delete in groups now.  Thanks for your support.

I'm sorry your messages still would not delete MtnLass. I know its frustrating. Is your phone still under the 1year manufactures warranty? The last step would be to review your account for replacement options.

After 5 hours of my time wasted at the Verizon store and on hold to Verizon during multiple calls trying to resolve this issue, a new Extravert2 phone was finally sent out.  Of course, since the LG software issue is not resolved, it has the same problem.  I'm told I have to swap out the phone three times before I can get a different model, even though this is a known issue, with no solution offered.  I would love to have this phone replaced with a different phone, one that works!

I have been having the same issue as many people here seem to be having. I have had my phone for about two weeks and this morning it won't save my sent texts and a message pops up that says, "text message not saved. Memory full or text messages are locked." Neither of which are true. I have tried everything that has been suggested by the verizon customer service and the problem is not revolved. It is very frustrating that one of the only phones that is offered by Verizon that is not a smartphone is having this prevalent of an issue without a solution. Verizon, get your act together and make LG get this fixed! Had my last Samsung phone for 5 years and only started having problems after year 4.

This is unacceptable.

Well said!!! I couldn't have said it better myself.  In the OLD days, if someone wasn't paying attention, you might get a slap upside the head to bring you around to your senses!! Since that isn't the "politically correct" thing to do anymore for these generation X'ers, let me give you another scenario and also reiterate the aforementioned problems with the Extrovert 2, IT ISN'T SOMETHING THE CUSTOMER IS DOING!! It's your hunk of junk piece of crap phone!! It's a software problem that is persistent and annoying! (at least according to your tech support people who seem to know more about this problem than the customer support reps do)  And this is for ALL of you Verizon Customer Support members: My other scenario is, if you continue to avoid handling this issue and diverting attention from the real problem by sending us all on novel, trivial, and boorish so-called user fixes, I will fix the entire problem myself by canceling my service contract as well as very easily convincing my friends and family members who are with Verizon to do the same!! If that doesn't get your attention, I guess nothing else will short of slapping you upside the head! And, if doesn't get your attention, than it means that your company is too big for it's own britches! It means that we customers all need to show Verizon that they need to start looking out for their customers and clients and stop concentrating on monopolizing the cell phone industry!!! ENUF SAID!

So after we check all this, it doesn't fix the problem.  I can't update software, delete messages and sometimes can't even see the right messages.

Did you try what I described? The phone does suck. However, I was finally able to fix it by accessing the server and downloading the updated software. You should be able to if internet access is NOT blocked.

I started having problems again 2 days ago. New problems. When I send a text it says, "Text message will not be saved. Memory full..." I have tons of room in the phone's memory. I'm able to receive and store incoming texts, but it won't store my sent ones, because it thinks it's full. I even did a phone restore which wipes out everything. Didn't help. And about that update... who knows if and when that will ever arrive. I'm having verizon send me a replacement. I hope all LG Extravert 2s aren't defective.
