When I give my phone a voice command, it responds "Sorry, I can't hear anything."

I used to do voice searches of the internet quite frequently.  Now, the phone cannot hear my commands.  This may have been associated with the last update, but I'm not certain.

Hi, pylot!

I'm sorry to learn that the voice search has not been working properly for you! Are you able to use the phone for all other operations, like speaking on the phone, using speakerpone, etc? A simple soft reset by removing the battery from the phone (while powered on) for 20 seconds often resolved these electronic glitches quickly! After the 20 secs, reinsert the battery and power on and test. If that does not correct the issue, a hard reset may be necessary (steps: http://bit.ly/OOsBSV). Keep me posted!

Thanks,

Does it not recognize your voice at all, or only sometimes?  At one point in the past, I had a problem while I was driving, and wanted to voice-text, and it didn't hear me.  I realized that I had the audio plugged in because I was listening to a podcast through the aux input to my car stereo.  Turns out that even while bluetooth-connected to the stereo for voice/phone, if the audio cable was connected to the audio jack, the phone must have thought that the audio jack was one that had a mic as well as speakers, so that is where it was looking for the mic input, not the bluetooth.  I had to unplug the audio jack in order for the phone to hear me.  Seemed rather a pain, so now I just use my Zune for listening to podcasts in the car.

Also, check the Speech section of Settings.  I don't remember which setting it was, but after one of the updates I did, I had to change one of the speech settings, because it had defaulted one of them back to something where it wasn't working.

If those don't resolve it, I'm not sure what else other than trying a soft reset and then a hard reset.  If the hard reset doesn't resolve the problem, then I hope your phone is less than a year old, and call Verizon for a warranty replacement.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Here's what I did to get the phone working properly.  I uninstalled the latest update.  After that, the voice functions worked fine.  Then, on a whim, I re installed the new update.  This time, the phone worked normally.  It was time consuming and frustrating, but the phone works fine now.  It was obviously a problem with the way the new update was installed originally.
