It's been 4 or 5 months since Nokia/Microsoft announced 8.1 with Cortana. Does anyone expect Verizon to actually have the 8.1/Cyan upgrades to the 928? Verizon, do you hear me now?

Verizon does not hear you now, and they haven't heard anyone who has been angrily complaining for the past few months.
At this point I certainly do not expect Verizon to release the 8.1 Cyan update nor the Denim update. Verizon has made it clear by their inaction that they are not going to support Windows Phone or their current customers who own Windows Phones.
To make matters worse, Verizon refuses to make any announcement whatsoever regarding the 8.1 update. They won't announce why it's delayed, what issues Verizon has with the 8.1 update, or even a possible target date. In essence, Verizon is behaving as though the update doesn't even exist, despite the fact that every other carrier has released it.
I have to assume that Verizon will behave similarly in the future as far as Windows Phone or any Microsoft product is concerned. If they are handling the Cyan update this poorly then they will certainly do the same thing with Denim, and of course Windows [Phone] 10.
My wife and I both have 928s and love them. We currently have the Developer Preview installed, which gives us 8.1 but not the firmware update - that has to come from Verizon for some mysterious reason. I have decided to move to AT&T after the first of next year if Verizon does not release the update by then; as I said, I do not expect them to. Unfortunately, my wife has her phone through work so she is stuck with Verizon, and she is furious about that fact.

Verizon kicked 8.1 back to Microsoft because Verizon's bloatware apps (VZ Navigator, My Verizon, Voicemail, etc. - stuff everyone deletes anyway) did not work on 8.1. Here is an article about it from Windows Central -

Like WPCyanNOW's wife, I get my 928 from work so I also stuck. Seriously, considering going the Developer Preview route...

People delete voice mail? Sorry I use voice mail and I expect it to work. Also many people do want My Verizon on their phone so they can keep tabs on their data use

Data Sense is better than My Verizon and voicemail works just fine if you use the icon that looks like an old cassette tape, no matter which version of VoiceMail software by Verizon you have. Voicemail itself doesn't require any software on your phone. These are just two examples of the useless nature of Verizon's software. Anything else you need can come thru a mobile site while they worry about their own software and provide us a more important update.

GREAT! The announcement doesn't give a rollout timeframe. I am patient....but....when?

I downloaded the pdf, thanks.
Tech support the rollout 'should be' within the next week or two. Make sure there is room on the phone in the vicinity of 2 Gb or more.
The developer version (which I don't have) is a moderately long 3 step process based on a YouTube video.

Also Icon will get it early January.

So all this pain and suffering, VZW gets Denim before AT&T.....

So that's Denim. How about Cyan for the Icon? Pushed together?

Don't you have to have Cyan in order to get Denim? I read that somewhere before...

They wouldn't bother pushing Denim if you couldn't get it. Your concern doesn't make sense.

I read the same; Cyan gets installed first then Denim a time consuming process.
Unless the push back VZW was to reduce the install times from: download and install Cyan, reboot; download and install Denim to just one download/install.

I was wondering if the pre-update update was the Cyan firmware.

I installed the released version of the 8.1 upgrade to my 928. I believe I did see Denim in the install.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I know we're getting Denim. There was a smaller update I had to install before I could install the big 8.1 + Denim update. But I guess there's no reason they couldn't roll everything into one so you can skip any intermediate Cyan installation.
Regardless I want to thank those at Verizon and Microsoft who pushed and fought to get this update out. That shows there are at least some at VZW and MS who can work together even if there are issues at some corporate level. It was an uphill battle and I think the silence was the most frustrating thing for those waiting. However the Denim firmware is a big Christmas surprise. So thanks again to those responsible for getting the update out.
Uh, unless you're on an Icon. Sorry guys, just give it a little bit more. They said it's almost ready... and I'm sure you'll be getting Denim too like us which is frankly better than many of us expected.
