Looks like the first sale is to get rid of the excess HTC 8x before bringing out the Samsung.  The 8x would be good if it had a microsd.

I'm a Thunderbolt owner, and let's face it, I'm soured on getting another HTC device and be in the Android ecosystem.  That being said, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only T-bolt owner that is in the same boat.  That makes the only current Windows Phone 8 option for me on Verizon to be the Nokia 822, a non-flagship phone.  If ever Verizon was wondering about their tepid Windows 8 start, they need flagship-caliber phones that aren't coming from companies that screwed over their previous owners in the Android ecosystem (HTC).

They need to release the Odyssey as an alternative option already and <Comment deleted> .

Agreed on the HTC 8x.  It would be good if it had the sd slot.

And while I'm not a big apple fan (Good product, just not a fan...) they do at least give you those memory options...I'd still rather have the microsd option for storage.

As for Win Phone..I think MSFT kinda <Comment deleted>...again it happens to be my personal favorite phone OS..but thats just me.  WP8 is still really only its birth period I think.  But I really still think they should have come out of hte gate running with some much better phones, and more widely spread.  As much as the Nokia 920 was touted at the outset (even though announced AFTER the samsung odyssey) it wsa restricted to AT&T, bad idea.  Too many folks are stuck on apps (or quantity as opposed to quality), not realizing its a brand new system. Although I truly wish they (MSFT + carrier) would have given the WP7 adopters some kind of discount if not an outright new phone when they announced no upgrade path for WP7, that it was basically being left behind (dont get me started on the whole WP7.8 thing).

On top of that earlier this year when VZW announced the death of unlimited plans...it was before the WP8 release, I think MSFT would have served themselves a bit better to at least make some comment (i.e. Hey, could you wait until after our new phone OS is released?)  Killing a lot of those who may have gone on to adopt it earlier now having to wait.

And watching the general public...know how everyone looks at specs....regardless of the intergration with the OS..or conservation of battery life, they mihgt have opted to have a number of phones more comparable to some of the android phones (spec wise) out there....  (sorry guys...mostly just venting a bit now), and show that they can be competitive with the other phones.

All that said, I'd still like to see the Samsung Odyssey come out now with the high end specs that I've seen shown for the S (and not the lower end specs I've seen rumored.)

Either way, I guess its still a waiting game.....If WP8 wants to survive Im thinking some much better phones need to be coming out soon...across the board on the carriers....

Well, I bought a used trophy in the summer of 12. I've been waiting for a real offering and thought the Nokia might be it after the HTC was non card and no battery and I was like... sayyyyy whaaaaaaat? Yet, no. The specs were immediately disappointing and I knew exactly what was going on. This is about the data plans and V playing favorites with OS's... likely because one or two of them are paying V to so. I mean, do you honestly believe V suddenly changed its mind about Blackberry and WinPhone mid-stride without a bit of... persuasion? So, I sit and wait for a real winphone. I'll never buy an android again or an iphone for the first time, so... I'd rather be off contract and have the option to switch to a carrier who takes WinPhone seriously, than be locked into a substandard phone because my carrier tried to capitalize with planned obsolescence on some idea I was desperate. I'm not upgrading to the tune of 100-200 or frankly for free when I'm not actually GETTING an upgrade. I'll stick with the trophy till they quit playing around.

What really "grind my gears" is that you just KNOW they'll blame WinPhone as an OS for popularity and sales when it was really their fooling around ridiculously...

Also, when i went to my local V store, they asked me what i was looking for... I said the new Windows Phone as an upgrade... and he was immediatley like, "Oh, muuuuh.... and turned away and said someone will help you in a bit, real dismissivley. Then i waited over an hour and a half, and the guy spent 20 minutes talking crap ont he Windows phones tryign to convince me to buy android

> Blame the OS for slow sales

I too am concerned that the sale of Win8 Phones will be blamed on the OS, when in fact, many of us (me included) are holding off in anticipation of a better offering on the hardware side. The potential (rumor) of an Ativ S class phone on Verizon may have an unintended consequence of holding back some early sales.

> Odyssey specs

Back in July Pocket-Lint (and others) reported that Samsung mentioned TWO DIFFERENT Samsung Windows Phones during their legal battle with Apple.

One phone, called the Odyssey, seems to line up with the specs of the high end Ativ S that is already available in some places in the world (and is the phone that I am holding out for, and that I expect to pay a lot for).

A second phone called the Marco was also described during the trial, which had the type of moderate specs that might get it marketed as a zero dollar phone (with contract).

Add my name to the list of off-contracts waiting for a highend Samsung Ativ phone. I wouldn't be so irritated with Verizon if they would just give us some tentative info. This guessing game is getting old, and Verizon's WP8 launch was only somewhat better than their WP7 disaster. AT&T whipped their butt both times.

I guess being on team Big Red makes us all... redshirts?

On the OS
Thats exactly right mate. On all counts.

However
Except that from everything I've read after that, if the ATIV meets the rumors, its the same low end range as the Nokia      and HTC.

Honestly, I dont get why they act secretive about phone releases... do they think we all get excited? Like more of us buy if they do? I dont know a single person across the web and locally who isnt annoyed to the Nth degree with cell phone company baloney just like this.
