I have owned and absolutely loved my Lumia 822 and now my Lumia 735. I have been waiting wit bated breathe for the Lumia 950 xl. I figure if the phones that I have been using for the last 2 1/2 years are considered mid level, then high end has to be off the hook. Now I read that VERIZON may not support a flagship WP 10 at all. If that is the case I would seriously consider switching carriers.

I have never ran into a business that will not push their best seller unless the sales person is agnostic. A company will not care less as long as it is making sales. This goes with ANY industry. It varies by sales people more than the company itself.
If that were true, then why have I never received an e-mail advertisement from VZW about the latest Windows phone, but receive at least one each week for an iPhone or Android? Why is it that when a customer goes into a store and asks for a Windows device, the service rep says that they don't exist and then pushes the Android? This is very consistent around the USA.
What is being ignored here is that if VZW pushes Android (and Apple) and actively advocates AGAINST Windows. The story is too consistent across the many VZW stores for it to be just up to the sales reps. And since they treat Windows as an enemy, how many Windows devices are they going to sell?

An option would be to purchase a Windows based phone...such as the 735...from a non Verizon Wireless outfit....Best Buy/Microsoft Store....take the phone over to Verizon Wireless and tell them to activate it on the spot.
Of course this isn't an option for the 950s...but...it eliminates having to deal with VZW salespeople pushing iPhones. If I want an iPhone...I'll ask for an iPhone.
Microsoft has admitted that it is taking a narrow distribution stance with the 950s. It is thought that the next generation of Windows Mobile phones (Surface Phones) will be made to work on more carriers. Even if VZW does not stock Surface Phones, the independent dealer option is always available.
I agree that VZW salespeople...as a whole...are seemingly biased towards iPhones.
The sales people I have encountered tend to be younger so it is entirely possible that they have grown up with Apple products...thus they are intrinsically familiar with them.
I suspect that this is the result of Apple practically giving away computers to schools back in the late 90s/early 2000s. Once the Apple computers appeared, families also bought them....either at the request of the schools....or....just to keep everything uniform between school and home. So today Apple is one of the largest corporations in the world.

Rules are rules but it's so ignorant to believe every rule is followed and that everyone is enforced. We know of UCC laws that are being broke by the big companies. So the rules are rules argument doesn't work when not all rules or really laws are enforced. Does that mean that this is one of them, no. Nor do I care. Microsoft is still a software company first. They tend to take things very slow when it comes to manufacturing items. It wouldn't be free for them to have the phones operate on CDMA. Their biggest market is Europe and Russia which is GSM. At the very least I know they would have had to done testing. Maybe their level of interest they wanted from Verizon and/or sprint is to cover some of these expenses.

Actually part of them licensing block C are those rules. Just like tethering Verizon was fined for violating those rules. If they continue to violate the rules the FCC reserves the right to revoke the licencing agreement and Verizon will lose their rights to band 13. They would lose the billions they invested in purchasing the spectrum and they would lose majority of their LTE network. You know how damaging that would be? Yes the FCC does have that authority 🙂

Authority and enforcing are two different things. It's not an automated system. I'm sure the FCC would enforce it. It is ignorant to believe with 100% certainty they would especially when we have this example. We know for certain that government like the FCC has the authority to fine and punish. We also know that they don't enforce everything they have the authority to enforce. It happens

I have been a Verizon customer for over 20 years. I am very loyal to Verizon customer and do not want to change. I have always had a "flip phone" until a 21 months ago, I made the change to a " windows smart phone." I am also loyal to Microsoft and I like the windows phone very much. I was planning to upgrade to a Windows 10 mobile device after my two year contract ends. I am very disappointed to learn that I may not be able to do this.
If Verizon and Microsoft cannot get together I am going to have to do a lot of sole searching and research to decide whether it will be Verizon or Windows 10 that will have to go.

While the 950's are not supported by Verizon Wireless, the next generation of Microsoft's Windows Mobile phones hopefully will be.

Next year sometime.
The 950/XL are nothing more to showcase Windows 10 and what it can do. They needed to release something and didn't want to spend a lot of resources.

I really love the Windows mobile operating system and I would hope and encourage that they adopt the Lumia 950 and 950XL (Or 940, whatever it will be called). Not carrying Microsoft's flagship phone will likely cause me to move all 5 of my lines to a wireless service provider that does carry it.

I am extremely interested in a Lumia 950 XL phone and Surface 3 Tablet combo. But I would accept a 950 as well. I don't even mind signing a disclaimer that releases Verizon from any hardware support beyond allowing the phone on their network. I'm also willing to pay full price for the phone if it gets manufactured for Verizon's system and Verizon allows it on the network.
I am tired of all of the pains with an Android phone. I am tired of trying to find usable apps on Google Play only to read in large numbers of reviews they are broken after the upgrade to Lollipop. I am tired of browsing apps on Google Play and finding 90% of them are full of adware. It is almost like the huge majority of the apps revolve around personal users instead of business users. I am also tired of Samsung creating fewer features on their phones to make it more like an iPhone. I was going to consider the Galaxy Note 5 (but they removed SD slot and removable battery).
And I don't want the limitations of an iPhone. The applications in their store may or may not have the same problems but the whole operating system and hardware is much more restricted.

love my 928, people think I'm crazy for having it and being excited for the 950, but they are good phones and really hope Verizon will carry the new ones, but not getting my hopes up. It goes back to when I got my lumia 928 2 years ago and they kept pushing me away from it even though it is what I wanted, they still tried to steer me away from a windows phone. maybe I will be surprised and they will carry it, but I doubt it.

I for sure want a Lumia 950. I already had the Icon and I love the potential that the W10 Ecosystem offers. If Verizon fails to carry this device, I'll be taking my 2 lines and 170.00 a month to AT&T. It's sad really... I've been a customer since they bought out Alltel and was with Alltel as long as I had a cell phone prior.
I really like Verizon service. However, when I bought the Icon, the store associates did everything they could to try to talk me out of buying it and alienated me anytime I went to the Verizon store after (to purchase accessories and such). All because I didn't want to buy an iPhone (gross) and I didn't want an Android phone... Simply because I wanted something different... They also didn't know ANYTHING about the device. Literally nothing. All they really had to say was that it was a Windows Phone and it was junk.

Thanks for posting this issue.
I have been a windows phone user since pre-mango (HTC Trophy). This is despite the fact that every time I go to Verizon I am actively dissuaded by the sales rep to move to Android or Apple. I even had one sales person tell me that Nokia made poor quality phones, didn't have a good history of making phones, and the Nokia phones had terrible cameras.
I was devastated by the news that the Lumia 950/950XL will not be coming to Verizon. If that is the case then I will have to change my carrier. I have been with Verizon since 2003 or maybe before that. I don't want to leave, the coverage is great. However, the thought of switching to Android or Apple is simply not an option at this point. I hope that Verizon and Microsoft can work out their differences and allow willing customers to get the phones they want.

Original search: Lumia 950 Verizon
As an independent Microsoft developer and windows phone fanatic I will say I will drop my family off Verizon if there is not an immediate device available for us on the release date of Microsoft's next phone.
I get I might not be your cash cow, but I'll be damned if I stay with you after all these years if you do not give me a device where updates come from the manufacture on time without your interference; whom Microsoft in my opinion have their operating system figured out without your help.
You (Verizon) get back to serving bandwidth, and let the consumers make our own decisions on how we want to enjoy paying for your service.

In this case I think it's up to Microsoft to take the leap of faith and prove their mobile platform has legs. The simple and undeniable fact is that in North America, WP has an INSIGNIFICANT market share. It's up to MICROSOFT to build it's user base. Make the CDMA version, give both Verizon and Sprint (hey, why not?) on no-fault terms so the carriers are not on the hook for unsold units, and BUILD THE BRAND!!! Asking Verizon to go out on a limb to support a fringe (yes - that's right - fringe) operating system is silly. Not. Gonna. Happen. It's just a business decision. Same thing with BlackBerry. Nobody wants to carry them and support them because it's a losing proposition. When you're Verizon and have the best network anywhere, you don't need to eat losses to court every user you can scrounge up.

While I agree that Microsoft has to do better with marketing in North America and making phones for all carriers, it is not just Microsoft's fault. Particularly when is comes to Verizon. They passively do not support Windows Phone. As noted in this and other threads, stores across the US don't push the Windows Phone and then even try to persuade people away from Windows Phone. I even had an experience where I knew Lumia Phones where literally in the Store stock and none of the Sales Reps of the store knew about the phone or that they were selling it. The Store Manager knew about the phone and knew they were in stock and reluctantly sold me a couple after let him know I knew they had them. There are hundred of stories like this all over the US concerning Verizon. If they have stock left over, its their fault. Windows Phone will sale if people are told about it. On the day I spoke about above, I got the attention of several people who heard me speak of the then Lumia 928 and 3 people asked to buy them too because they didn't know about the phone and did not necessarily want to buy the iphone or Android phone. Just saying......

That's not NEARLY enough to make it worth while for Verizon to sell and support a new WP device. It's not up to Verizon to market one operating system or another. Verizon just sells 'em. It really is up to Microsoft to make a compelling product and get the word out. When everybody is clamoring for Android and iOS, you don't try to change their minds if you're Verizon - you sell them what they want.
Would you ask Dell to push Linux as an operating system on new laptops? They offer it, but they don't push it. Because it's not Dell's job to push Linux.

I think you missed the point. OK everyone forgive the off-topic explanation, but your example doesn't fit. Dell is a dealer for its own product they are suppose to lead people to their own stuff. They will sell a Linux Server for an overall package system but its not the same as my earlier point. Verizon is not a dealer. It is a wireless carrier that sales various devices. Key word Various Device It would be a like a auto sales business that sold different cars but kept the BMW's in the back and didn't tell its sales force or if people came and asked about the BMW's, the sales person would discourage the sale of the BMW and show them something else. If people new the BMW'S were there being sold, they'd buy them. Just treat Windows Phone fairly and let the sales speak for its self; good or bad. Teach & Inform the reps about Windows Phone like they do with iphone and Android devices. Place them out where they can been seen like everything else. Again the point; in the US, Windows Phone may not sale great on its own, but how would we really know if VZW is not allowing the phone to compete fairly. I think if it was treated like every other phone in Verizon's stores, it would hold its own. And to get back on topic. I will be getting the Lumia 950 XL.
