A week after I bought the Lumia Icon, I was looking to see when the Windows update to 8.1 was coming. Instead I read that the Icon had been discontinued. Is this true? Why wasn't I informed of that.
Solved! Go to Correct Answer
Not sure if VZW is obligated to tell you a device is being disconnected (it would be nice if they did though). If you're not happy about it and you're still in the 14 day return period you can choose to exchange it for a different device.
The update isn't available for the Lumia Icon yet. It is still planned for early 2015.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
Really? Care to define "early 2015?" Because we've been getting jerked around for month after month getting nothing but empty promises. VZW and MSFT are both holding back the truth about this device.
No flagship phone has ever gone a year without an update and was pulled from the market 7 months after release.
You weren't informed because you didn't ask.
O2 just announced the 930 (gsm version of the Icon) is getting Denim starting today. And we Verizon users are still waiting, and waiting, and waiting...
Honestly, would it have made the phone more attractive if they were still selling it at Verizon stores? They will continue to support it (in their fashion) just like their other WP phones. And the Icon continues to be one of the best-specced phone in the Lumia line. It's still a flagship mobile.
It would not make it any more attractive. The reason it concerned me was why they discontinued it. I should have used the 2 week window to change it, but I liked the phone. I thought that the update was coming within the month (that was what I was told). It would be reasonable to worry that it is still not coming. Do they think it is a bomb? There could be any reason.
We saw this lots of times, 'early next month, later this year... etc.'
The fact is the Icon was still on Black and WP8.0, and it was their flagship.
What if iPhone 6 cannot get latest update, but iPhone 5, iPhone 4, iPads..?
All your posts are supporting VZW, time to stop.
We are stating what is known and not eluding to the what-ifs and rumors. All anyone can say for sure is that MS/Vzw say they are working on it. No one can prove otherwise at this moment. It is, however, understood that a lot of Icon owners bought the phone under assumed pretense or under some sort of advisement that certain updates would definitely come. No, I don't work for Verizon.
