Why do I not get text messages from some iPhones?

i know of two of my contacts i don't get text msgs from.one of them my phone says can't send text

Not cool! Lets us figure it out, PSchmidt! Did you or they recently change phones? Are you able to make calls to this number? Can you receive calls from them? Which device do you and they have? Share details so that I can help.

There is a well known issue with iPhones trying to send messages via iMessage and not using regular SMS.  The iPhone user must have the box checked for "Send via SMS" in message preferences.
