Well verizon, you have really outdone yourself this time. You have, yet again, required me to sign a two-year contract with the purchase a phone. As has happened with each of my other contracts, my "basic" phone has not lasted the two years of the contract. You now require me to either buy a phone at full price from your store, or find a suitable replacement. As I cannot afford to buy a phone at full price, I found a friend that had a Samsung Alias 2, which qualified as a "basic" phone when they had used it. I went to switch my plan over to this phone, only to find out that to use this phone I must pay an additional $20 a month! Now, I am a poor college student already living on strictly ramen noodles. How do you expect me to fork up the money for this? I will most likely be terminating my plan with your company and taking up a contract with another, unless the company's philosophy (and ridiculous prices) change.

Not real sure what plan you are referring to. If you have a basic phone, the MoreEverything plan w 700 min and unlimitted text is basically $25/month. If you want unlimitted talk and text it's $40/month.

verizon does not make the phones............ they provide service to the phones. if your upset about how long the phone last contact the people who make them...... verizon provides a discount to the phone when you sign a contract stating you will use the phone with their service. if you go to the company that makes they phone they will not provide you any type of discount even if you have been buying there phones for 1000 years.

I was a broke college student with Verizon with a smart phone and I was fine, now I'm a mother and still just as broke and still have a smart phone, like the 2 previous people have both stated $25/month for a basic phone with 700 minutes on the More Everything Plan, or $40 for a smart phone with unlimited talk and text with 1 GB of data, and Verizon does not make the phones they just sell them for cheaper then what the manufacturer would sell them for, if you can't afford a contract on a Family plan or afford to buy a cell phone at full retail, maybe you should get a home phone for your dorm or apartment, or try Prepaid for Basic phones or Pay as you go, other carriers are the same exact way when it comes to buying phones and plans and purchasing a new phone if your phone breaks, come to think of it that's why we have INSURANCE options so if our phones break we can get them replaced. Just saying.

Since it won't let me fix my post I just remembered the lowest data package they have is 250 MB for $15 plus the $40 line access fee for a total of $55/month without taxes or INSURANCE.

I bought my husband a used alias 2 over the summer. That's the phone that is a flip phone but then opens the other way into a keyboard right? I wasn't required to add a data package for it at $20 extra, why is that? He used it most of the summer then in August got a brand new basic phone. I bought it off ebay opened it up and activated it right from the phone no extra charges on the account. Mary
