VZW has just released Windows 10 Mobile for the Icon (pigs are flying).
Download the Update Advisor, Upgrade Advisor – Windows Apps on Microsoft Store and you're on your way. There will be two upgrades performed; once to 10586.107 and then to 10586.420.
No word as of yet if there's a firmware update.

It's been one hell of a ride for Icon owners. First everyone assumed a flagship device just two years old would OF COURSE be getting Win10Mobile. Then we learn it's not on the list - even though it has the requisite internal memory. Rumors surface that it would get the update, then counter-rumors say no, it's not happening.
And now --- BAM!!! --- Congratulations Icon owners!

Yes, but I have not been able to get it to load. I've tried about 15 times, and it looks like it is working. It downloads for about 30 minutes; installs for about 15 minutes, and then stops with a message that says it is experiencing some kind of problem that is probably temporary, and that I should try again later. Same result every time. I called Verizon, who is now trying to connect me to Microsoft. Apparently MS is providing all support on this, if one can get through to them.

I have been running the technical preview and final build 10586.420 on a test device since 6/20 or 6/21.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I've tried about ten more times to upgrade; all failed with the same result. I gathered Ann154 upgraded from a technical preview, whereas I upgraded from Windows 8.1. I wonder if that accounts for the different results? I have an active case number with Microsoft, who promised to call me back yesterday. As of today, I have not heard from them.
Has anyone else successfully upgraded to the production release of Windows 10 Mobile from Windows 8.1 Denim on the Lumia Icon?

The first technical preview I installed from 8.1 took over an hour to install partly because the battery was getting hot. Once it was cooled down, the phone was fully charged and left alone it finally installed. Granted this was a few weeks ago.

For the benefit of others who come across this thread, Microsoft finally concluded that the problem I was having was due to some corrupted files on my phone. They suggested that I download the latest version of the Windows Device Recovery Tool and then download the latest version of the Upgrade Advisor from the store and run it, which they said was slightly different that what I would achieve by doing the built in hard reset. The RT did not behave exactly like the emailed instructions said it would, but after two or three attempts, I got it to work. After running the UA, I ran the Phone Update setting, and the process first reloaded Win 8.1, then I updated that to get Win 10. The process was a bit ragged, and I lost all of the data on my phone, but everything seems to be working now.
