I've had the basic verizon plan for 3 years but my 10 year old LG flip phone is finally wearing out. I don't use data, just talk(it's a phone!) I can buy a replacement on Amazon if I'm operating in 3G. I'm fairly sure that's the case, but I can't find anything on this website that confirms it. Help!

You're not going to be able to activate a 3G phone, that's restricted since 3G is being retired soon.

Joel, Thanks for the link. Why do your basic phones get such poor reviews?

All of our devices, smart or basic, should be running perfectly. How long have you been experiencing this? Do you have any physical/water damage to your line? MichelleH_VZW

The basic flip phones Verizon offers are getting mediocre reviews. Do smartphones require a data plan or can I keep what I have?

Smartphones do require a data plan.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

We understand the desire to have a phone that performs at the level you need. Smartphones require a data plan for the device to work. If you do not currently have a data plan, you would need to migrate to one should you purchase a smartphone. Please visit https://www.verizonwireless.com/plans/ to view our plans. LisaL_VZW

What @Tigerstep wrote is true. You can not activate a 3g phone again.

What is true needs to be shared when it comes to a 3G device.
Let me help with your concern about our 3G network. What is the make and model of your device? Do you need looking for a replacement deceive? We have announced the CDMA Network Retirement and here's a link that goes over the details https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-218813/ .

I've got a LG Accolade that is failing and I planned to replace with a Samsung Convoy 3 that I own. Please let me know if the Convoy operates in 4G. The other line has a LG Revere that still works great and I wanted to get a newer basic phone as a gift, but the user HATES smart phones. We want to keep our current plan.

The Convoy 3 is a 3G phone, which means you can't activate it anyway. I would spruce up your LG and keep using it as long as you can. Once you decide to replace it you MUST have a 4G phone and as you've discovered or will soon discover, the current offerings are not very likeable.
