Lately on my Samsung Brightside, I get a "quiet" ping and a message that says "message receipt failed". I try to download the message manually and I get the same "message receipt failed" again. It seems to be a picture that is trying to come in. But I also receive other pictures just fine from the same senders.
I asked at my local Verizon dealer, but they had no solutions except to say I really should be using a Smartphone. I don't want a smart phone - I only need to talk and text.
Any suggestions?

It's because you have the data blocked. Even though you aren't billed for data on a basic phone with MMS, a block prevents ALL data use. I have data blocked on my son's phone and he can't do picture messaging either.

This is very strange susiebill! Let's get some more clues, so that we can explore options to resolve. Is this message/ping/picture from the same contact? What's your phone's software version? http://vz.to/1sxd81k

Yes, I’ll get one pic from a contact and the next multimedia text from same contact won’t come thru.
I have data blocked on this phone due to curious toddler grandsons!!!!
Thanks for looking into this.

Curious grandsons can certainly be a cause for concern! I'd like to get this working for you though. Does the message ever download after hitting it a few times? Do you have any issues sending regular messages to this contact? How do you have them stored in your phone? Please share. Thank you.

I have never been able to download the multimedia message no matter how many times I try. I have usually just deleted them in frustration. I have no issues when sending messages to any of my contacts. Only in receiving mms occasionally. I’m not sure what you mean about how they are stored – they are just in the message thread from a contact.
I currently have one of these messages on the phone from Dec 13 and just tried again to download, but it didn’t work. I rec’d one picture from this contact – then I replied with text only – and her next reply is MMS I can’t download.
Thanks for trying to help me with this-

Thank you for your answer. IT is the first time someone told me that. My local Verizon dealer just wanted me to go to a smartphone! I can live with what I have and now know why not all MMS come through. Thanks again.
Merry Christmas
