my Nokia Icon clearly states that it is connected to home Wi-Fi but it is still using up my cellular data.

Hi, I just received a text notification that 75% of my data plan is used up. I thought it was weird since I don't use cellular data that much. I noticed today that when using my Lumia Icon that under my Wi-Fi settings, I'm still connected to a known network Wi-Fi. But for some reason, I'm still using up my cellular data. I was watching Netflix earlier, and there goes a chunk of my data, even though the settings clearly showed it is connected to Wi-Fi. I do not think it is a Wi-Fi issue here, since I'm currently using my laptop to type this up as of right now.

waymon1984,

I’d like to see you worry free regarding your phone and its data usage.  When you are on wifi, do you turn off cellular data? http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-84850/ When cellular data is turned off, are you able to connect successfully to websites? Do you notice this happening with all wifi or just the one at home?

Hi, thanks for your reply. I noticed when I shut down and restarted my phone it is back to normal again. My previous Settings (cellular+SIM) is as follows:

Active Network: Verizon

Data Connection: On

Data roaming options: Don't roam

For limited Wi-Fi connectivity: use cellular data

I've turned off cellular data for now. My question is how come my phone was using cellular data even though it showed it was connected to Wi-Fi (it didn't say connection was limited)? So I just lost a chunk of my data for nothing? I don't remember this happening before.

Thank you.

waymon1984,

That is great to see that you are back up & running correctly. These devices are just like mini computers, so they need to be restarted every once in a while. Given that this was what you did to get your wifi up, I recommend powering off every once in a while.
