text message from 900-080-004000

I received a text from the number 900-080-004000

Is this a Verizon number?   If not, should I not open it?

Yes, that's a Verizon free text.  Open it.  It may be a confirmation of a payment received, a reminder of a payment due, a confirmation code for account changes....simply opening messages will not harm your phone.  CLicking links is another matter, but this is a free text from Verizon, see what they have to say.
